Oil in distributor!
I'm running a stock HEI distributor (for now) and yesterday I took off the cap to mess with the springs and weights. Well, I saw a big puddle of oil at the base of the distributor housing, all around the pickup coil. So I took it out and cleaned the hell out of it. What would cause this though ? Is there some some sort of gasket, o-ring, etc that seals the top part of the distributor from the pressurized oil at the bottom of it ?

The o-ring is located right below the distributor base (where it sits even with the block). Dont know where you can get one but I imagine ask a few auto parts stores...they might be able to order them. It's an easy install. Just yank the distributor, slide the old o-ring off, lube the new one up a little with some oil, slip it on, and seat the distributor back in the same way it came out.
