yea. i bought new 416 cast heads and ground all the valves and seats. only problem is, when we went to change the cam, there was copper showing on the cam bearings. i imagine the rod and main bearings aren't much better off since the bottom end hasn't ever been touched. so now i gotta decide whether to take the 305 to a machine shop and have it all redone or to just invest in a 350.

350 at this point would probably be just about the same amount of money and you'll get more out of it.

yeah. that was gonna be one of my questions. that whole head was screwed up. but that valve guide is on the same cylinder as the crack. i was wondering if it had anything to do with that or if there could've been another cause. i know the spring wasn't busted on that. it didn't really feel weak(er) than the others i took off either. what else could cause this to happen? i suppose it doesn't really matter b/c i bought another set of 416 heads, but i'm just curious what would've caused this.
that cylinder was filled with antifreeze when i pulled the head off too......looks like i know where my antifreeze has been disappearing to.
i know this engine was overheated in a parking lot at mcdonalds by the retarded previous owner and it warped a head. from what i could gather from her, the car never ran right after that. methinks she got the shaft from the place that charged her $700 to "fix" it.
