Oil pressure problem

The oil pressure is way high on my car & I was wondering if anyone has any insight as to why this may be happening. I noticed it last week when there was some oil spray over the right side valve cover & hoses. I took it in to the shop to have it looked at & the oil dipstick had a crack in it, at the weld. That was replaced & so was the oil pressure switch. I got the car back & it's still happening. I am getting readings of over 300 on startup & when driving it can go as high as 375. Although after the car warms up it seems to hover around 200. But once i hit the gas the pressure climbs right back up. I took another look under the hood & I think that the oil may possibly be coming back up thru the oil dipstick from the pressure being so high. Can anybody give me some possible idea what might cause this to happen & what kind of damage to the car this may do. Vehicle is '91 350TPI, oil used is amsoil syn, 10/40.

i don't know the metric stuff, but usually you aren't too high to cause problems. you may have a bad gauge or sender. to see what you really have screw a mechanical gauge in it.

High oil pressure won't cause that problem.

Check your PCV system. Make sure the valve has vacuum, and that it sucks good if you put your finger over it with the engine running; and that the air supply into the othe rvalve cover is clear too. Sounds like the PCV hose may be blocked with crud buildup.

So if my PCV system is functioning properly what would cause the pressure to go so high??

Don't worry about the pressure. If it doesn't peg the gauge when it's hot, it's fine. You can't have too much oil pressure (well, at least as long as it doesn't blow up oil filters) just like you can't be too rich, or too good-looking, or too popular.
