I'm looking at a set of eagle 4340 h beams, and they are bushed for use with floating pins. My new pistons are pressed pin, and i'm wondering what i'd have to do to make them work together.

Ummm, what is gonna keep the wrist pin from coming out?

When using rods with a bushed small end, the piston has to have a groove on the ends of the bore for the wrist pin. In this groove, one can put in a snap-ring or spiral lock retainer to keep the wrist pin in place.

a73camaro is correct, the pistons would need snap rings grooves in them to keep the pin in place.

ok i screwed up, it was early, and more importantly i wasn't thinking very clearly. just like i can't keep the firing order straight, i learned it backwards way back when i was in high school. sorry for any confusion i may have caused.

so they don't work at all then? I'm not talking about converting teh pistons to floating pin, i'm talking about making the rods work with the pressed pin. any difference or is it the same story?

a piston with a floating pin can be used in a press fit rod (what i originally thought you had ask, i really am a dumbass most of the time) a rod made for a floating pin has more clearance (so the pin will float) so there's no way it'll hold a press fit pin. again i'm sorry if i confused you, i just got careless didn't read or understand the question you had ask.

Don't be so hard on yourself. With a lot of smart people on this board, the errors a usually quickly corrected.


zupmanZ28 - do not get the full floating rods. U'll need to get your pistons modified to work with the floating wrist pin. Get connecting rods that are "press fit" for the wrist pin.
