Am I slow??

Read my Signature...is that slow?? I am seeing alot of other similar cars with alot better E/T's with alot less mods..The track I run at sucks `*** `..it's famous for that too..every one says it's about 2-3 tenths added to your E/T..so say I run a 14.6..is that right for my car? Also, I am having this dellima..at 91 mph I'm almost at redline for 3rd..should I power shift or run it in 3rd through the trap..I can't figure out which is better. Thanks alot fellas..byebye

A 14.6 sounds about right for your car with the mods you have, give or take a few tenths. What are your 60 foot times? You say you have bald tires. If you aren't hooking up, that can kill your ET. Your 92.4 MPH trap speed should yield an ET in the 14.6-14.9 range with a decent launch, so you aren't far off at all with your 14.9. If you are at 91mph in 3rd and near redline, then stay in 3rd. Shifting into 4th will gain you nothing.

Thats acctually not too bad. With the same mods you have plus his TES headers my friend runs 14.4s and 14.5s in his 88 IROC 305 6 speed w/ 3.45s.

Track condition, altitude, and temperature/humidity at the time of the run can all have big effects on your 1/4 time.

60 foot times are also very important, as they tell you how well you launched. You should be able to get a 2.1 w/ a all stock suspension setup and decent tires, anything over that and you can expect to pick up some time by either practicing, getting better tires, or fixing problems that relate to that such as wheel hop, or a fried posi, etc. And a tenth wasted on your 60 foot is worth at least a tenth off your actuall et (most say 1.5-2 tenths). I'll wager that your 60 foots were up in the 2.3s-2.4s if this was one of your first times at the track. How close am I?

Well that rules out the 60 foot, a 2.17 is decent. What were your shift points? You pretty good at shifting, were you granny shifting, powershifting, etc? Have you tried to vary the shift points at the track and determine the best rpm? If not give that a shot, might be worth something depending on where you were shifting originally.

Otherwise I'd wager track altitude/conditions are responsible for your times not quite being as good as they could have been, not they're really that far out of norm anyway...

Well, I do the retard thing and stare at the tach almost all of 1st gear not really looking at the track assuming the road is in a straight line and no bunnys are going to jump out at me..I pride my self in my shifting skills..I practice on a tar road that leaves marks when I go from a stop all the way through third(after second it stops but leaves marks when I shift)..it's really helpful to see how long it takes me to get from first to second..I might as well be powershifting..I'm not though..I have a problem with the whole everything is riding on me not missing a gear and not breaking another tranny mount. I think I could have gotten another tenth if I stayed on it to like 5075 instead of shifting into 4th. BTW I try and shift right at 5k. On the street, If I shift at like 4500 I look cooler because the back kinda snaps and the tires chirp when I shift but I am slower into 3rd so I don't ever do that unless there are girls in a 2000 VTEC or something. I'm also launching between 1500-1700. I know this is fairly low but it's all I can hook at at the butt track of the world. http://www.7508.com Well thanks alot for your guy's help. When I install my AFPR, get tires that you cant see your reflection on the tread pattern, and make my dern MAF Burn off relay start freaking relaying maybe I'll run a 14.5 at 93.3. ha! I doubt it

You did some upgrades I see but to really drop your ET the best bang for the buck is new heads. Since this is what is keeping you from making power. But like anything it is a matter of how much money you want to spend to obtain that speed. It is really a matter of what your goal is 13, 12 ? I am sure the person how can run a 12 in a thrid gen could of almost bought a new 2000. Just my .02

Yea right! A 2000 is about 30k! Plus alot more than what I pay a month for insurance..I got my car for $5,750. I think with 24 thousand dollars I may be able to just a *little* better than 12's. Dont you? It's not wise to get heads without a cam and vise versa..so I think I'll go with the dreml and the plenum and "screwing" with the afpr for now. thanks for the reply..seeya

My best run in my LG4 powered 86 T/A 5 speed was 14.943 @ 91.67mph.
Saturday was my first time drag racing and my 4th run was my best. Very first run was a 15.129 @ 92.80.

here is my slip for my 14.94 run. http://www.leannrimes.cz28.com/slips.htm

Also, I was running with a bad clutch. It chatters and slips. New one was supposed to be installed friday.

Wow, you think you've got it bad.
I've got an LB9/5 speed, with headers, PR chip, 3.70 gears, catback flowmaster and the best i've pulled to date is 15.377. With dry rotted tires, the 60' was 2.6, and the mph were 96.7. So i'm getting killed by RS's, having trouble keeping up with some cavaliers, but i'm hoping, like you, that new tires will take care of the problem

Car: 89 IROC
Engine: Yes
Transmission: That, too.
You may need to take a good hard look at the tuning of your car. Fuel delivery, spark advance and so on. I know one guy who improved almost a full second just by tuning up his car better, optimizing the fuel delivery and keeping out of detonation. Have you ever thought of checking to make sure that your chip is set up correctly for your car? What you really want to do is find someone close by who can do chip burning for you. Ask him for help, and get to know him real well. He can be a lifesaver for you. Make him your best friend, and with the right tuning you can often find a whole lot of hidden horsepower in your car.

I want to father his children and paint his house and have him make my error codes go away all in the same day. No really..are you Dom Deluise?

Yarnboy, Tim is the man. He will definately hook you up with some good PROM burning. He is a little shy, so he wont come out and ask you to help you with your car. Just be persistant.

Tim helped me quite a few times with car stuff too. I am pretty dumb when it comes to computer things, but he takes the time to explain it all.
