92' camaro's radiator needs to be repaird, wont handle 300hp.

I was told by many people at my local track to stay with the original radiator that came with my camaro which was equiped with a 6 cylinder and auto. They also mentioned to have it flow tested or something clean it or repair. If i do this could i expect for my engine to cool better.(see sig)Since i change the motor the original radiator had 140,000 miles on it. How much would it cost to clean it, repair it. Ive seen becool's radiator and ill kill myself if i pay 450 for a radiator. My car's manual so does anyone know the measurement for the radiator so i can ask if summit has any custom radiators for a 92' camaro. The only mod i have for cooling is an 180 degree thermostat(new)and i ordered an 30% more flow than stock FLOWKOOLER water pump. Any advice or help.

The original radiator should work fine im pushing well into the mid 300hp range and run about 190 with a 180 thermostat. if you want to upgrade to another radiator just get a 2 core instead of the standard single from autozone.I've never had a problem with the single core. the way that works best for flushing a plastic aluminum model is to go to the car wash and blast the crap out of the inside but do this only if you see corrosion on the cores.

Just go get a replacement radiator for a 350 car. $200 more or less, brand new. Fits perfect, drops right in, everything hooks up, should be a whole lot better than some old one with however many miles of stressed plastic tanks, corroded (and therefore thinner) aluminum, and who knows how much scale built up in it. IMHO it's pointless to waste money on servicing a radiator that old.

FYI, I'm running a stock radiator as described & stock single electric fan in my 83, with a considerably more powerful motor (a roller 400) than any 300 crank HP.

I just bought from Summit a Griffin aluminum 2 row radiator for $180. All you have to do is measure the radiator you have and get the same size, or larger if it will fit.

thanks for your replies just wanted to let u know that the radiator looks like 100% percent condition but i guess looks can be decieving. I thought the 350's radiator and v-6 radiator where the same. By the way how much is the 2 core radiator from auto zone. Ill measure the stock radiator and see how much for the griffen radiator, one question why is the alluminum giffen raidator so cheap.

Only about 130 for the 2 core. but i would try the 1 core just for kicks and see what temp you run. a radiator change isnt very hard so if it runs hotter than you want, just slap in the 2 core.dunno why the griffens are so cheap they probably are for track use
