just got a 91 rs gas hog help!!!
Hey I just got a 91 rs (we need it to test fit our new ram air camaro hood on) It has a new factory GM 350 motor in it (12000 miles) The guy I got it from said it had a 305. When he put the 350 in he used the 305 intake and throttle body and it never ran right. It runs ok good power but it sounds like it surges at a steady speed and it gets BAD gas milage. Would having the 305 stuff on it be a bad thing?? also if I went with a intake and 4 barrel would this make a diffrence in milage?? What would have to be done to put a carb on this?? also what size would be good?? and how much is one of these cars worth did i get a good buy at $1700
Thanks,

Car: 1987 Trans Am
Engine: LT1
Transmission: T-56
Axle/Gears: 10 Bolt SLP Torsen, 3.73 ratio
From what I understand the computers are different, and the fuel injectors are different btw the 305 and 350, sets up for all sortsa problems!

A carb is the lazy mans answer to efi troubleshooting . The 350 TBI and 305 TBI ecms are the same depending on the vehicle. The trucks got the 7747 ecm while the caprice coop car in 89 used the L05 engine (350) and the 8746 ecm (like all TBI f-body's from 89-92, NOT 88!). Since you say you get terrible gas milage and surges blah blah, I would change the O2 sensor and see if that helps. Does it ever backfire when you are just off idle and mash the pedal? If so, then you probably have a lean condition and will need a custom chip to fix that. Or you could increase fuel pressure a lot but that would make your gas milage even worse.

$1700 is an awesome deal... even if the 350 doesn't work well, it's still only got 12000 miles on it. If the body is in good condition, I'd say it's worth easily $3000...
If the body is rotted to the very last nuts and bolts but the trans in still strong, I'd say the drivetrain is worth at least 1200-1500 to the right person.

Mods:
Removed air baffles, mandrel bent cat-back pipes (but stock replacment muffler, Dynomax Turbo and Catco converter are on thier way)
