i am going to be pulling the engine out of my rs soon and be puttin it in my z28. i was wondering if it would be easier to pull the engine with the trans or with out. or pull the trans but leave the bell housing. i have never pulled an engine with the trans before. also would installation be easier eaither of the 3 ways? i am lazy and don't want to much work if i don't need to have to much. thanks in advance

I pulled the 305 out of a parts car with the auto tranny and it wasn't too difficult... I think it may be easier just because you don't have to wrestle with the tranny under the car. Only problem you may have (happened to me) is lifting the engine and tranny high enough to get it out of the car. The hoist I was using couldn't lift high enough, so I had to get a buddy to lift up the tranny to get it out of the car.
well right now i don't have a hoist don't know anyone that has one so my next option to use is a tractor with a loader on it. it will be able to lift high enough. but i will try to find a hoist in the time i am getting the rest of the money for the swap. thanks for the info.
IMO its quicker to just disconnect the trans. Sure you could pull the trans as well but you need to disconnect the tq arm, cooler lines, X member it just makes a big mess and the hood must come off this way. Seems like more work to me and I hate work.

One thing I will warn you about, is if you pull the engine and tranny at the same time, you will have a huge mess of tranny fluid under the car... in my case I wanted to take the entire drivetrain out anyways, so the extra work of taking out the crossmember, driveshaft and torque arm had to be done anyways....
