so I pick up my son from daycare, I turn the key and...nada, no click no nothing. so after a few choice words I check the fuses (all good) check the battery connections (also good) I look at the wires going down to the starter, I notice the wire harness has a little hole where it was touching the exaust. I move it out of the way and it fires right up.

does anyone have any thoughts on this?

replace the harness, and secure it away from the exhaust

its not fixing it thats the problem, I am curious why it happend. what wire in the harness could the exaust have been touching to cause a no-start.

dosen't replacing the harness seem a little drastic?

It grounded itself out. Been there, had it happen.

Not the same thing, but my block temperature sensor rattled itself loose and fused itself to my headers. Needless to say it grounded, and my temperature sensor went...slightly insane. Point is, electronics grounded at the wrong place cause all kinds of crazy things to happen.

cc is right. It grounded itselft out. Repair or replace the harness and secure it away for the exhaust and you will be fine.

Yep, it was likely the small gauge purple wire from the ignition switch. If it was one of the heavy gauge wires from the battery it would have blown a fusable link. I'm surprised it didn't blow the fuse link on the small one, either.

For repair, soldering and heat shrink tubing is the best way to go. Crimping with a high quality crimping pliers and using heat shrink would be a good second choice. A nice set of klein crimpers can usually be had for $25-30.
