really bad news, need advice, post suggestions

this has been the longest week of my life, 6 days ago i looked at an 87 Z28 painted ferrari yellow with a 4" cowl hood. brand new 350, richmond gear 5 speed. eaton posi 3.73 gear ratio. 3" flowmaster exhaust, sfcs, black leather, t-top. absolutely beatiful car. we made a deal he was gonna take my car plus 3000.00
and he called me today saying that he changed his mind and doesnt want to sell it anymore. i was so stoked for this car. this sucks cuz i took a loan out already and went through all this crap to get the money. a bunch of buddys are gonna stop by my work tomorrow to look at it. im pissed.
so im stuck with 3300 and im trying to figure out what to do with it.

heres what im thinking. ..
1) give the money back to the bank
2) put it into my camaro, ive had the car almost 10 years

my car needs some bodywork and a paint job.
i need a new rear end, it is undriveable.
it has a 305 with 260,000 on it runs decent but it needs a new carb.
i want to lower it
tint windows
needs a new windshield, its cracked
i want a fiberglass hood
headliner

blah blah you get the picture
any opinions would be appreciated
thanks

that sucks.

i was checking out that ride too, looked pretty damn sweet.

luckily i bought an '86 iroc instead that someone stole last week and then wrote it off. right out from under the deck at the golf course i serve tables at. how i don't know, you could hear the thing for 9 blocks. someone will die.

now icbc isn't interested in paying me.

sigh,

then i bought a new honda civic.

3 days later im back looking at a couple of GTA's.

once a gearhead always a gearhead.

Okay I see you live in Canada. How is your car for rust? If the body is fairly rust free, keep it. I live in Kentucky and I have to get another 3rd gen due to rust. For now all my $$$ goes into the engine. You can get another rear end from a bone yard for a few hundred bucks and dump the rest into a new 350.

As time and $$$ permit do the rest of the mods you have on your list. The camaro you were looking at was a deal for $3000 considering all the mods. Another 3rd gen for $3000 probably will be all stock, then you have to put more cash to make it comparable to the one you were going to buy. Then, spend even more money to get the addition stuff you want. I say pending overall body condition (not counting paint), I would keep it and invest.

thanks for your responses,
im keeping an eye out for any other good deals. but im also thinking about dumping the cash into mine.
mine doesnt really have rust, one quarter sized spot where its dented by the gas door (the dents about the width and depth of a bowl) it has a piece of rust in the middle. the other is a dent that looks like a scratch on my passenger side door that is about 1 1/2 feet long. plus the clear is peeling off, and the rear bumper cover is missing some paint.

3000 wont get me very far when i think about it.
i cant go too wild on a new 350 anyway because anything over 300 hp is going to blow the stock t-5 right.

maybe i should just put a new carb on it, other than the carb problems ive been having over and over again, the 305 runs pretty good considering the mileage. its got an rv cam, performer intake and headers. but i would love a new 350.

I have $2500 into my budget build so far. That includes brand new vortec heads, a new carb, headers, and exhaust. All of which can be saved for later. You could also score a 350 core for cheap if you look.

Instead of buying a new carb, rebuild the one you have now. That could buy you a little more time to decide what to do.

hey all, i decided to keep my car. im pulling the dents out this weekend and starting to prep for paint.
i already bought an auburn limited slip rear, 3.73 gears, and all the bearings and seals including axle bearings and seals.
im actually pretty excited cuz ive owned the car for so long and its getting some well deserved attention. as far as the 3300.00 that got loaned out to me, ill be buying a new carb, windshield, headliner and maybe springs. the rest of the cash is gonna get paid back to the bank. (dont want to get into too much debt, ill do it as the money comes) the carb will tide me over until i can fork the money over for a 350 or whatever i decide to go with.

any suggestions on carbs? thinking about a holley SA 570 or 670. or an edelbrock AVS. maybe even something with mechanical secondaries i dunno.

I wouldnt really recomend a edelbrock carb but i have never personally tried an AVS just a performer.

I dont think a T-5 would last very long behind a 383 unless you take it easy in which case you may as well stick with a 305

I don't think a new carb will make much difference unless you change the intake as well (I could be wrong). The biggest choker on a 305 is the heads. IMO, I would just rebuild the carb you have. Take the money for the carb, get you a nice 350 core as a foundation for you to begin with and start stock piling parts for it.

i have a performer intake on it, the carb has been rebuilt less than 2 years ago, and since then i have dumped over 500 bucks in misc repairs on the carb itself. The carb is shot, and no one here can fix it properly. any idea why the car tries to stall out when i come to a stop or take a sharp corner. also after the choke is off, theres 3 or 4 different stages of idle, depending on how i kick the throttle. If you have a simple solution to this i mkight keep the carb. but im pretty sure i tried all the obvious to fix it so far.

That a factory non-cc q-jet? bring it by.... actually 86qTA (Ryan) is in your neck of the woods, he could help ya.

It's a good carb, don't waste your money on a $300 edelbrock, just to have tuning issues.

headliner re-fabric-ing cost me $60 or so. you should get headers if you don't already have them, that'll really get the car moving. You could also plan on building a budget 350, with your 305 heads on it (i'm doing that), and i'm only budgeting $1500 or so for it....

thanks,
what do you guys think about precisicion engine rebuilders?

http://www.precisionengine.com/perfo..._gm_chevy.html

i was thinking about maybe the 327, or one of the 350s. i just dont want to have to replace my tranny right away. just need something streetable.

i can get my uncle to pick that up, hes a truck driver that goes all over the place. i wonder how much it would cost to crate an engine from houston to seattle.

just an idea...ive heard they were very reputable

you could save a schwack of money by buying an engine local. Usually an engine shop can build one to your specs for about that price, and probably deliver it to your door too. (that way if something goes wrong they're nearby to yell at, plus canadian funds, lack of duty charge etc.)
