Stalling problem
Hey,
just bought a beautiful 89 Iroc z28 camaro the other day and the only major problem I gatta fix before it hits the open roads is a stalling problem... I know things that could cause this could be simple things like the fuel injectors or maybe just a tune job but i'd like your opinions so i dont miss anything. So the car only stalls in idle... and only once the engine is warmed up... while driving the car runs great no problems if i stop to put it in reverse or just stop and let it run or what ever i need to keep the RPM's up or it dies. So what do you think the problem is has anyone encountered this and have been able to fix it?
- thanks

Re: Stalling problem
sounds like i have the same problem as you, everything i have found has said it is mostlikely an electrical or emission problem, to list what i have done, i started with a tune up, (plug's, wire's, cap and rotor, fuel filter and oil change.), then moved to egr system(valve and solinoid), changed the ignition module, then i bought a new distributor(mine was rotted, may not be relavent to your problem), all of this has helped the stalling problem, it takes much longer for it to act up, but i am now chasing either a wiring harness problem, possibly the ecm, or the est
hope this might help, i would appreciate a reply if you fix this problem, maybe i can finally be done with this nightmare
note: this has been done to my 89' 305 TBI RS

Re: Stalling problem
It could possibly be the IAC valve; it's what controls the amount of air the car gets at idle. Sometimes just cleaning it will fix the problem. It's located underneath the throttle body.

Re: Stalling problem
true, that is another part i have changed in my troubles, and it did help somewhat, and as LORDCRETH said it could possibly fix your problem, also check your throttle position sensor with a volt/ohm meter, best of luck with your problem

Re: Stalling problem
Buy a couple cans of carb cleaner or throttle body cleaner spray, remove the throttle body, take the IAC motor off the throttle body. Now spray the IAC and the passage in the throttle body (and do the throttles/blades as well) with the cleaner untill its clean. Reassemble and try it out.
Though if its the original IAC motor, it may be a better idea to just replace the IAC with a new one and clean out the TB.

Re: Stalling problem
dont spray the IAC with any type of solvent! the throttle body okay but not the actual IAC it will damage it
