finding a vacuum leak help

Car: 1987 Camaro, 1986 Trans AM
Engine: V6 2.8 multi-port and V8 5.0 FI
Transmission: 5-Speed and Automatic
Axle/Gears: no idea
finding a vacuum leak help
what can an auto shop do that i cant to find a vacuum leak?
on my 305 tpi theres so many wires and hoses in the way im not sure how I could possibly find a stupid vacuum leak because its most likely not in an obvious place
can I rent a vacuum tool that will tell me where the leak is?
or does a shop have specil equipment to save me the agrivation?

A shop can make money at it.
A vacuum pump/gauge like a Mity Vac (I'd just buy one if possible rather than try to rent it) can help you identify leaking components like EGR valve. It won't, most likely, help you fine leaking hoses, and certainly won't help you find leaking gaskets or leaking power brake booster.

I know it's not the safest method, but i always spray carb cleaner on areas where i think there is a leak. If it is leaking you will here a change in tone of the engine for a couple seconds.

cuz my idle is high, not eratic or searches just high
not sure if its my adjustable fuel pressure regulator just giving me more fuel than i need to give me more fuel the screw is barely touching inside
other idea is an air leak making me run alil rich and giving me high idle

If you got one of those 1 liter propane torches, open it up and go around hoses, gaskets, brake booster etc. everywhere. Your engine should rev a tiny bit if it sucks some propane in.

This may only apply to carbs and TBI, but it should have an idle adjustment screw. It has been a while since i messed with TPI, but if you adjust the idle, and set the pressure to around 45 you should be good. Manual will have the right pressure, I think it's 45 psi, but please double check. I don't have my book with me.
