oil consumption problem
okay.. built this engine... it doesnt have 100km on it yet i dont think.. it consumes quite a bit of oil..and smokes worst upon startup and when i give it the gas. we did a compression test and those numbers were fine. so then we did a leakdown and those results also prooved that things were fine. by that i mean quite good.. results are on this thread.

so then that lead me to beleive it was the valve seals i pulled the heads for inspection..... here are some pictures.. i didnt get pics of under the heads but i can get them. you can see the valves a re quite wet with oil.. as were my plugs... and the botom of some of the exhaust valves were absolutly soaked with oil... i also found oil residue on the inside of my intake manifold and runners... but not my plenum...[tpi] so that makes me wonder. ive heard teflon valve seals might be part of the issue.... is it possible im sucking in oil from the pcv?

Re: oil consumption problem
come to think of it... i took the heads to a shop to look at and he didnt like the fact that i used paper gaskets between my heads and manifold.. he thought maybe i was sucking oil in through there... anyone ever heard of that?

Re: oil consumption problem
It could happen, but seems unlikely, especially at startup. Where the heads done (guides and seals)? What was done to the block?

Re: oil consumption problem
Pull the intake I bet its sucking oil. Seen a new engine a few weeks ago on the dyno sucking oil. had to use a thicker gasket to make it seal.

yes ive got the motor apart.. i think oil was coming in the intake.. the entire engine was done.. block was bored .30 over heads have brand new everything.... i think it could be a combo of intake sucking oil and garbage teflon valve seals.

Make sure you check all the guides as well. They may have been trashed when the springs were cutting into cups.

Re: oil consumption problem
teflon seals are fine unless damaged on assembly. It's either worn guides or if the block/heads were milled, you might need a thicker intake gasket as it's sucking oil. It's important to look at every piece on dissassembly. You can look closely at the intake gaskets to see if there was oil 'tracking' where the ports should have been sealed. I don't know if you still have them, or threw them someplace where the evidence might have been wiped away.

Re: oil consumption problem
oil was definetly coming in the intake gasket... i had the heads machined for lift so maybe the guides got damaged from poor work or from the springs
