VBelt to Serpentine

I have an 86 305 v belt driven LG4 with PS & AC Comp on driver side, Weiand water pump and Alt high on Pass side.
What kind of an ideal donor car am I looking for to switch to a serpentine setup?

I have seen the directions on how to do it but not what to get the parts from.

Re: VBelt to Serpentine

Scoggin Dickey sells a conversion kit ($$$$) or you could source a used one from a 89+.....much cheaper. Last one I bought locally was like $120 complete.

But if you do it, you'll hafta replace your Weiand water pump. Serpentine systems are reverse rotation so it can't be reused.

Even if you should choose not to use the GM kit, there's info in the following link that might prove useful:

Any V8 F-body.

Of course, the plastic intake tubing forward of the throttle body to the filter(s) is different between Camaro & Firebird

Re: VBelt to Serpentine

I bought a system off of ebay for a 92 RS camaro, (TBI) and was easy to install. Like James said that GM guide is a useful piece of literature. I didn't get the AC and ALT braces, so I used the numbers from the guide to order new ones. I bought a new REVERSE ROTATION water pump for an '88 pickup, just need to make sure it has the heater hose fitting. It came plugged, but I just switched the fitting. Then I just needed to redo the AC & ALT wiring, easy as pie.

Re: VBelt to Serpentine

I just got done doing this on my 84 T/A. It was really simple...I mean really simple, the only hard part was running the wires back through the looms and lengthening them. Any 88+ Fbody will work. In fact, just about any 88+ Fbody, truck, or caprice will work.

Re: VBelt to Serpentine

Pick n Pull is COOL!
Like a kid in a candy store. Total serpentine system for $117.

Donor was a '91 silverado 1500.
Question:
Water pump seems to be in good shape, but it has no water outlet for the heater hose. What is the best thing to do?

Didn't notice it until I got home.

The alt was almost new and the AC compressor looks to be in good shape. There was no smog pump, but bracket has space for it.

Re: VBelt to Serpentine

I was gonna use brackets from a bravada....buuuuut wouldn't fit under stock hood, so don't use those.

As Trump mentions, buy a reverse-rotation water pump with the correct fitting. Following is the GM pn (but you should be able to pick it up much cheaper from an auto parts store): 88894005

Re: VBelt to Serpentine

March all the way. i got the three pulley set for ~$200 from summit (crank, alt, water pump). it is clear powdercoated aluminum, the level of machiening is perfect and the have a really nice finish on them. i chose the kit with the overdriven waterpump so she stays nice and cool.

Re: VBelt to Serpentine

Thanks for the Part Number on that pump...how does the donor car run their heater core? do they run fittings off the manifold?
