tranny used is a couple hundred, depends on mileage and body, if its a rust bucket, no. If its decent take a closer look at it.

no, he is incorrect on the s10 tranny, you need a camaro or firebird V8(it has to be a v8, V6 will not work) as far as switching the tranny goes, budget a afternoon to do it, its not a hard job.

Re: should i buy this????
how many miles? how is the interior? how are the body panels (straight, no accidents/ damage and/or rust)?
the tranny isnt a big deal. you can pick one up used for a few hundred or get it rebuilt.
if the interior and body panels are in good condition is would say go for it. paint is relatively cheap if its just the paint that is in bad condition.
or...
depending on the condition, of the paint, a good claybar/buff/wash and wax can go a long way. it might not be showroom perfect, but at least it would look presentable.
also just an FYI, the LG4 is not a power house and you will probably looking for a 350 in the near furure like a lot of others (including myself after my first Camaro, now i have a 350 in the 85).
post some pics if you have them

Re: should i buy this????
Id say go for it.. I got my camaro for 500 bucks.. Looked like crap when i got it.. Paint was all dull and interior wasnt looking too pleasant.. Bought about 40 bucks in wax and car wash stuff.. I cleared the paint up and it brought out the shine in it.. Cleaned interior out pretty good.. still needa go some more.. So far so good.. Best 500 bucks ive ever spent.
Even if the tranny has no 5th or reverse.. you can still use it to get around in until you can get another tranny. If you spent another 500 bucks on a tranny and fix some of its flaws.. It would be a 1000$ car and thats still a good deal

if you want to stay with the computer controlled carb, rebuld the q-jet or purchase a replacement q-jet. if not i would recommend a small holley ~600 CFM. then you would need a vac advance dist and a few other misc items. i believe there is a thread in the carb forums about ditching the cc q-jet (i had the cc qjet on an 87 and it gave me constant problems with the computer, but that was just my situation).
