im sorry for the n00bish question, but I'm able to buy this car for my 6 month stay in california, i'm originally from the netherlands
So my question would be, what kind of engine does it hold? I know it's an '82!
thnx!

Base model with an lg4 v8 , looks like. I cant tell the year because I cant see the back.

Re: what kind of camaro is this?
To me it looks like an early 1980's "basic" Camaro, not a Z28 or an IROC. The nose piece is of the type found on base cars. The round air cleaner on top of the engine tells me that it's a carbureted engine rather than fuel injected, probably a 305 cubic inch Chevy small block V8. It looks to have been repainted due to the absence of badging, possibly "Berlinetta" badges. It does still have the Camaro badge on the nosepiece though.
If it is a 305, that's less desirable than a 350, or a fuel injected car.
It looks like it has a hood from a Z28 or IROC, and aluminum wheels from a newer Z28/IROC.

Re: what kind of camaro is this?
could be TBI. I don't think it's a berlinetta. The nose is wrong.

thnx for the fast reply's!
This is the back:

By the way, as this car is going to be a daily commuter for my 6 month stay, I didn't really care about what was inside, I can buy it for 1000 dollars.
If theres something special about it I will take it back with me to the Netherlands

Well, the lack of the stoplight indicates it as pre-86.
do you know anything about the car at all?

Re: what kind of camaro is this?
The wheels match, and it's a T-Top. Could be a sleeper in the right hands, but other than that, it's nothing really special.
It does appear to be in reasonably good condition, however, and if you can buy it at a good price you should at least be able to recover your money when leaving. Those cars will sell a little better in summer (6 months from now), and if you can drive it eastward to sell it before leaving (and fly out of Chicago, Cleveland, St. Louis, etc.) you could stand to make a good profit.

If it passes the basic "used car test" I'd nab that thing up for a grand in a heartbeat.

Re: what kind of camaro is this?
assuming that the previous owner hasnt done anything too extensive with it (such as an engine swap) it looks like it should be the 1982 berlinetta (lack of spoiler, front clip) with the 145hp 305 and some late model wheels. why don't you ask the seller?

Re: what kind of camaro is this?
My 1983 305 Berlinetta has those tail lights, only slightly different than some other tail lights, but my favorite. They could have been used on other years/models as well. But I think it is an early year car in the third generation- 1982-84ish?

Re: what kind of camaro is this?
That car is an 84 Berlinetta unless someone did more work than just slapping an early hood and some aftermarket wheels on it ! The nose emblem is a gold badge only used on Belrinetta's.
Check for an "S" in the VIN - 5th digit ( Berlinetta code all years )
Check for an "H" in the - 8th digit ( V8 Carb)
Check for an "E" in the VIN - 10th digit ( Year = 1984.)
If the car runs good and has a valid inspection sticker on it - I don't htink you will fnd a better deal anywhere for $1000.

Re: what kind of camaro is this?
Don't get me wrong, I love thirdgens, but an 82 or 84 Berlinetta doesn't seem like a very good choice for a reliable car for a 6 months stay. There are about one million things that can go wrong with that car in 6 months and half of them probably will. Slight exageration but I don't think even the most rabid thirdgen fan believes these cars are the most reliable cars around. Now sure if you want to get out there and trouble shoot a poor idle problem before going to work, or some other phantom computer or sensor problem on the way home, they are great!!
For a $1000 any car is going to be a crapshoot but I would think a Cavalier or dare I say it, a Toyota Corolla would be less risky.

Re: what kind of camaro is this?
Ha, you make my point, sort of. This guy is going to be in California so no big deal, but it was 30 degress this morning and sleeting here. Stepping out of the car and opening the hood to manually adjust the carb is more than a little inconvenient with those conditions.
MY second car was a Volkswagen squareback and I really enjoyed it, when it ran that is. I had so much trouble with the starting, but I could always turn on the key, get under the car and jump the solenoid with a screwdriver and it started and ran fine. I would do this even on dates. Finally I connected two wires from the solenoid terminals and ran them to a button which I installed on the dash, voila!! Other than having to get under the car to jump the solenoid when it was snowing, it was fine.

the car was in pretty sad shape, but still ran and the motor was alright. needed a new battery though.
if you took off the carb and cleaned it up a bit it would run like a charm. esp for a car with so many km's for such a price.
