305TBI or 350TBI?? starter size different?

Bought my 91' bird few months ago and after some much needed love she runs like a champ. I bought the car from a dealership for only 2700 (not a speck of rust) Anyways the guy said it was a 305. Vin is code E = 305TBI. But when I replaced the starter the guy at Autozone said the starter I pulled was from a 350 and showed me the smaller 305 starter compared to the one I pulled/replaced....Is the starter size different from the 305 to the 350? I can't read on the block any stampings with everything in the way? It would help to know what engine I have When future mods or general work needs to be done. Thank you!

The same starter was used on the 305 and 350. You can use a starter from any small block with the same sized flexplate that you have now.
