Which Cam???
I have been doing some research for a cam to use with my 305...
i cant decide between two cams...
the XFI268, the SOlid roller XE256XSR... the solid roller will be more expensive since i gotta get lifters to match...
but here are the specs
(directly from the master Lobe Catalog)
--------------XFI268---XE256
Lobe lift -----.356----- .360
dur @.05 -----218*---- 218*
dur @.200 ----143*---- 141*
lift @106*-----.058---- .056
lift @110*-----.047---- .045
w/1.5----------.534----.540
w/1.6----------.570----.576
w/1.7----------.605----.612
i have read that solid rollers open the valves sooner, but the way it looks is like the xfi actually can keep up with ramp rates of the solid roller, unless im reading the specs wrong... but the .200" numbers are longer than the solid roller, all the books ive read and all the examples ive seen have shown solid rollers to hold the valve open longer above this point, but thats impressive i think... which do you think will make more power? or rather do you think the solid roller will make enough power to justify the cost?
lash setting every now and then wont nother me so thats not an issue...
anyway, my engine is gonna be a 305 +.03, HSR (ported), vortec 305 heads (520 casting, same as 059, which is same as iron lt1 minus regular coolant flow...) ported, 3 angle valve job, throat work, etc etc, LS6 lightweight vlaves, dont know which springs yet, COmpo Magnum rockers 1.6, Speed pro hyper pistons, 0 decked... around 10.1 comp, LS1 ecm conversion, total seal MAXseal gapless top ring set, stock 5.7rods with arp bolts, cast steel crank (the stock one was really bad)...some shorty headers and a 3" exhaust, probably with a single exit for less back pressure and more flow...smog pump convereted to vacuum pump for crankcase... (if someone could tell me how please...)
so will the solid roller be worth it?
thanks in advance...
Fast355 built a 305 similar to mine and made 356rwhp, mine has a different intake and will have a bigger cam either way...so id be around there with that motor (hopefully...)heres the link just in case...

Re: Which Cam???
With a cam that mild, no, there is no benefit to SR that you will notice.
