Car: 85 Trans AM
Engine: Chevy 355
Transmission: T-5
Axle/Gears: 3.73
Clear stock hood?
Might be hard to judge by pics but here they are...
I bought the car with no air filter on there,removed hood to pull engine,bought pro flo air filter today and for some reason I think it might not clear the stock hood.
I guess I could always wait till I install the motor and hood to get final answer.

Put a straight-edge going from inside fender edge to inside fender edge, where the inside of the hood would be.
Measure the distance between the straight edge where the inside of the hood would be & the top of the air cleaner.
NOT exact, but it would give you a better idea.
OR--
Put the hood back on.
Get some modelling clay or play-do.
make enough " snakes " to go stand up along the edge of the air cleaner & the center of it.
( cover the air cleaner with painters tape or wrap it tight in plastic to keep the stuff from going thru to the cab. )
Make the " snakes in different lengths from 1/2inch to about 7/8inch long.
SLOWLY start to close the hood.
Watch it closes to see if any of the snakes make contact.
Remove the ones that touch.
Repeat
until you cant see thru the hood--
From there,-- SLOWLY close until you THINK contact was made. Repeat til you know the cleaner touches or the hood latches.
Doing this way takes a while. & ofcourse DO NOT force it to close!!
OR--
Take off the cleaner & cover the carb.
Put the snakes on the perimeter of the cab, close the hood.
If contact was made, put smaller snakes on, etc.
The smallest to make it without contact-- measure them. Add the heighth
of the cleaner installed on the carb. The total will be close to your clearance.
No matter what you do to figure out how much clearance you have // need, there's also the motor movement to add. IDK how much to add for motor movement, probably about 3/4inch??
Just random ideas. Someone probably has the same intake // carb // air cleaner you do.

Even if it does, and I doubt it will, those triangles of death are a bad ting. go buy a round air cleaner with a drop base, if you want to some kind of open element air cleaner.

I knew someone who had it and it broke up and started to get sucked into the motor. Easy way to ruin a motor. Luckly he found his was starting to break up before it sucked the whole thing in.

yes i wish they would stop making them also...but on a differentnote dont bother trying to sell one either...you cant give them away...but alky is puttin you in the rite direction

That cleaner that was suggested is good but you can get the JEG's house-brand for less then half that cost if you are cheap like me. Even comes with a reusable filter.

FYI ... that would not even be close to right because the hood itself isnt flat it is a lot higher in the middle that at the sides so you have more clearence towards the center of the hood that at the sides. It will probably fit with the stock hood if you have a 14" air cleaner with a drop base and a 3" filter element.
