Ok I lost the keys to my car unfortunately my spare key were on the key ring at the time I have been searchin for two weeks and no luck now I read somewhere I can have new keys made with my vin number but I'm worried the locks and such may have already been replaced my iroc has been through three paint jobs 5-6 owners 2 motor swaps and I don't wanna waste the money if the key won't work..... my question is what would be the most cost efficient way to take care of this problem? Pay a locksmith? Swap out locks and ignition? New keys through dealer? Any advice would be awesome as I just built my motor the car wouldn't start then I lost my keys and haven't been able to tinker with it for a few weeks and as you all know snow is coming real soon here in mn this thing needs to be finished and put in storage asap.... thanks in advance

well look a a few more times where you had them last, if you put them under your seat then loook again cause mine were stuck in the spring cause im a dumbass, anyways cal around and find a locksmith that does house calls, and he can get you a key. word of the wise, make many copies

keep looking, but in the mean time, go get a copy if the ignition key from the dealer(get the door key too just incase the locks are the same) if the door lock key wont work, buy a new lock set(both doors and hatch) only thing that would be a problem then would be if you had T-tops you wouldnt be able to lock them

what year is the car cuz it might have a vats system if so then ur up ***** creek with out a paddle.. happend to me i know.. i would go to the dealer and get a key made and see if it works.. if u get lucky then well there u go if not then ur probably ganna have to change the ingition cyl. which wont be fun with out a key to unlock the trumbles inside.. if its a vats key like mine... go to the dealer get them to cut u a vin key then ur ganna have to have it towed there or just have it towed there to begin with. they will plug it in and find the vat code aka resistor amount.. then get u a key to match it.. i know my vats code by heart now just in case.. good luck tho

Mines an 85 iroc I don't know what difference it makes... I don't have the original t tops on the car anyway the po "my cousin" was cruising down the highway and one flew off so he bought new t tops for it so I'm not worried about those I actually have the scratched up ones I'm thinkin about having em painted to match the car... but back to the keys with an 85 can the dealer make keys with the vin my car doesn't have any of the old electronics it was a 305 tpi now its a carbed 355.

I don't think they can make a key off the VIN on a car that old. Know anyone with a GM master key set kicking around? There are not many different keys, 80-120 depending on the era. Of those, maybe a third to a half are often used combinations (I only know this because I worked for the state auctions that sold the cars you see abandoned on the highways. I had to key them if the keys were missing).

i lost the little chip in my key.... long story short i ended up putting a new ignition cylinder in and bought 2 new ones. i dont no if it was the best choice but it worked. ended up costing over $300 i dont no about the door locks though.

i had a 1984 camaro and the dealer cut me a key for that also just go there and ask.. all it is, is a code in there computer with the key cut for that cars ignition cyl..

go get your self a new lock cylinder and new locks.. it's much cheaper, of course only do this if you're mechanically inclined... there is no vats, I think vats started in late 89-92 on our third gens, of course I could be mistaken... so go on and hit the search button and find the data...

You have VATS though, totally different ... You should have done some research, bypassed vats and done a lock cylinder replacement... I imagine they can't be more than 30 dollars...
