IAC question

Rookie question, but how should I go about "unscrewing" the IAC from the throttle body?

Re: IAC question

Is it worth doing all that just to clean it?

Re: IAC question

If you are trying to clean the IAC, you should really pull the TB and clean the passages also.

Re: IAC question

The red thing is a vacuum cap that is covering the vacuum port for your charcoal canister.

To my knowledge there is no such thing as an idle stop plug. There is a throttle stop, which is on the other side where the linkage is, it prevents you from "over opening" the throttle blades.

Re: IAC question

Okay, makes sense. What I'm looking for is the Minimum air adjustment screw..
Saw a pic that had it on the upper right corner of the throttle body, but it's not there on my car... it's an 89 IROC-Z 5.7L 350.

Re: IAC question

It's covered with a cap that you have to knock out. It on the top driverside corner of the TB. Right where the linkage is.

I am assuming you are having idle issues? if you have no vac leaks or other problems, follow this article.

Re: IAC question

Yup idle issues...
when I start it, it idles high at first, then jumps around, then stalls.

Re: IAC question

It could be the throttle positioning sensor (TPS) also. It's located next to the IAC. They are about 20.00.

Re: IAC question

Yup. I am almost positive there is a vacuum leak.

First I am going to find and repair the vacuum leak, then I am going to give a good cleaning to the IAC and throttle body.

Then, I am going to make sure everything is set correctly.

Just need to make sure I know how to do everything. Thanks for your help!
