Compilation of problems - Help/advice very appreciated - '92 Firebird
Headlights:
They only work half the time. When I hit the switch for them to go up, they make this awful cranking noise and flicker up and down and don't go up all the way. Sometimes one will go up all the way, and the other wont. And sometimes they both go up fine, but even when they both go up fine they still make the cranking noise. And when I close them, they again make the awful cranking noise. I was told that there are plastic gears or something that need replaced?
Rattling:
A loud rattle comes from underneath the car. It stopped for a while because I tore off the heat shield on the catalytic converter, but I think this new rattle is coming from something else. Any ideas? Another heat shield on something? Pretty positive its not my exhaust either.
Tire/Axle rubbing:
Just recently I've noticed whenever I turn I'll here this little tiny bang like noise like something is rubbing. Kind of hard to explain. It's not the tire rubbing either, it sounds like something big or more internal. My guess was something with the axle?
Car dying at low RPM's:
Sometimes my car will randomly just die and I have absolutely no clue why. I'm hoping you can tell me. It usually occurs when I'm backing up. I will always be going extremely slow, 0-5mph. So basically it's when I'm letting the momentum of the car move itself. It will sorta shake for a second and then just rumble out and die. And sometimes if I'm fast enough if I give it gas really quick it will sorta recover and won't die. Help?
Engine rattle:
The sound is present probably 80% of the time. It's just a rattling awful noise coming from the engine. One of my buddies told me it could be coming from something to do with the belt?
Thumping at acceleration:
Loud thump when accelerating too quickly. Tranny mount, right?
Air conditioner:
Found a place with the old freon. (R-12) I believe it's called, and they filled it up to no avail, so I'm assuming I need a new compressor? I was told they have a compressor at O'Reilly's Auto Parts for my car that is for the new freon used in modern cars. Does it just go on normally?
Recent vandalism:
Somebody keyed all down side the driver side and tore the gas cap lid off my car. Looks really bad. Picture:
I have full coverage and am probably getting the whole car repainted. My question to you is, should I stick with the color now or get a new one. My other ideas are flat black, flat gray, gloss black, gloss silver, or some kind of dark charcoal gray. I think the blue now is gorgeous, but I'm leaving my options open. What do you think?
My car is definitely not a piece of ****, look at the picture of it in my signature. Just a couple things wrong lol Any help or advice would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Well I am only going to assume it is a 305 T.B.I. because thats all I know about. The Idle problems sounds like mine was. Checks yours TPS, IAC, and MAP sensors, this really helped mine out. Also make sure all your vacuum lines are run right and are not broken or bent. And I believe, am not certain, that it should idle around 750.
And that thump (feels like the rear end kicks you forward?) yeah thats the tranny mount.
Please if anyone on here thinks I am wrong on something please call me out on it. These are just problems I encountered and some things I did to fix them

Probly the motors. But make sure your wiring isnt messed up. But to make sure use the manual crank for the headlights to make sure they come up freely and dont hit anything.
When my friend replaced his headlights he put one back together wrong and it didnt clear the metal bar in the back and would only come up half way.
But if I had a guess I would defiantly buy some new motors for them, they are going to break sometime anyway.

Hallo Headlights 9 out of 10 wires or contact somewhere. I bought new xenon lights on ebay. Cut the wires before the headlights, put the new ones in. Works great now. about 100dollars.

Stalling issue is probably fuel shortage or bad sensor, sometimes the throttle body just needs cleaned out though. I would clean out the throttle body and throw a new fuel filter on and see if that helps.

Did you wash out you engine bay recently? Is the rattling coming from near the alternator?
