IAC Question

I pulled the IAC on my 91 GTA 5.7 and I was wondering if I should be able to push in the needle against the spring. When I do push it doesn't move a lick, completely stuck and hard. I thought it should be free to move unless it only moves with electrical current. Was wondering if since it does not move by a push of my finger if it was stuck and bad. Although I thought it seemed to be working when it was in the car. I could tell the idle would change when I would turn on the AC. Although I would get major loping when the car was completely to running temp. My fuel injectors were bad anyway and I am replacing them, that is why I have everything apart and decided to look inside the IAC hole and clean everything out. Pushed on pintle and doesn't move at ALL. Is this normal before I spend money on a new one?

Re: IAC Question

I think it shouldn't move since the motor inside actually threads it in or out. You might just be feeling the play in the threads if you push it.

Re: IAC Question

you should be able to rock it back and forth and actually push it in. if you are unable to move it in then it is bad.

Re: IAC Question

Well my point is I feel no play at all. It does not move.

Re: IAC Question

Thanks one92rs. This thing is frozen like a block of ice. Doesn't twist turn push in against spring nothing....I even tried pushing the pintle against a wall and it would not break loose.

Re: IAC Question

If it is the original IAC, you should probably replace it. It sounds like it is not functional anyway. I think I payed about 20+ bucks for a new one.

I don't know where you got it for 20. They are like 80 at advance auto for the bwd.

Re: IAC Question

Alright, I was thinking of the TPS. Sorry my mistake. By the way, did you take carb clearer and give it a good cleaning?
