Random Camaro issues
Hey everybody, this thread is gonna be a bunch of assorted issues I have with my car, just checkin to see what people have to say about them. First issue:
when my car warms up, it has a rough idle goin on. The revs will drop in an irregular manner, sometimes to the point of shutting the car off.
any ideas?

Re: Random Camaro issues
EGR or TPS or CTS. Depends on lots of variables. CTS is cheap. I uplugged the cts and drove. It rectified the problem, but really was masking the real issue with my EGR. With the CTS disconnected it makes the computer think it is -40*. It will throw a code but run well.... Next reconnect CTS and unhook the vac line from the EGR. If it is still fixed your EGR is the problem, if it remains start with the CTS. Best thing is to really think about what is going on. Mine was surging and bucking but only when warm. Sometimes would die when I let off the gas, but yours could easily be different as mine is a 350 TBI.

Re: Random Camaro issues
I agree affliction. However, I ment for him to unhook and run for a few miles once it is warm. We did this for only about 20-25 miles. It just showed me part of what is wrong. I hate to just change parts, I probably didn't have to replace my CTS. Just be sure you test before you change parts.
If the no CTS test helps then unhook the vac line from the EGR. I have this experience so just want to see these cars run right and keep them on the road.

Re: Random Camaro issues
Just unplug it. It is on the intake by the thermostat housing on the V-8's. Do this then drive it around, see if it fixes or changes anything. Then plug it back in and remove the vaccuum hose from the egr (assuming you have one) or unplug the solenoid and see if that helps.
This will help narrow the issue down. Let us all know what if anything is different. These things will probably set a code but once you check them they can be erased easily.

I did notice that you had a 6. That is why I added the part about the 8. I will have to check where it is on the 6 tomorrow. The boy left the Haynes manual in the car. you might be able to find it online.

Re: Random Camaro issues
hmm, well what im guessing is that im just getting bad compression, because i took it to my mechanic and he blew smoke into the engine and he said there were some leakes. is a rebuild the only way to fix it in that case?

Re: Random Camaro issues
grease all your suspension, with a grease gun. See if that helps. But while you are under there check everything out to see if any of the rubber is cracked, worn out.

Re: Random Camaro issues
well, there arnt any bangs, and the car rides fine, so i dont think anything is outright broken. the suspention compresses just fine and doesnt make any noice at all. it clanks when the left wheel moves up or down without the other side doing the same

Re: Random Camaro issues
Thats exactly what im saying. The bolt pattern for the bell housing is completely different between the v6 and v8. It physically wont bolt to your v6.

Re: Random Camaro issues
Alright, i greased all the fittings under the car. The fitting that is right underneath the brakes on the drivers side would not hold any grease (which is also the side the noise is coming from) so i bought a new fitting and put it on, and now it holds grease just fine. Didnt really help the noise at all. My freind seems to think that I need a new ball joint.

Re: Random Camaro issues
I'd dig out a 350 somewhere, craigslist, or a salvage yard, and just go that route with it, sounds like you're gonna be neck deep in that motor longer than it would take you to get a good V8 setup
