Hey guys ive posted a few times about my cam i got the other week its a lunati 60101 it's going to put in a 305 l69 h.o engine im assuming the springs wont be able to handle the increased lift, are engine valve springs universal? what should i be looking at?, also i'd like a new timing chain so i can start fresh with this new cam, Can anybody help me out? ASAP thanks!

You are correct, the stock valve springs are not up to the task. Use the recommended valve springs for that cam. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LUN-73943LUN/

A replacement timing set for the application should be fine. Get a double roller if you like.

I assume you know you need new lifters as well.

thanks for the link the summit website doesnt seem to always work right for me, i purchased the 60101LK witch is the luntai cam and lifter kit, what is the benefit of a double roller timing chain?, would a stock replacement work just fine?, im on summit right now looking at Roller kits from lunati and they list about them having "torrington" bearings what exzactly does this mean, (they say that the bearing will stop wear and tear on the block) but they also mention at the bottom of the aplication section that "Will not fit factory roller cam applications", im looking at http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LUN-93115/ Will this work with my L69? thanks again!

Stock-style timing sets, and even the cheap double-rollers, will stretch, which retards the cam timing. The cheapest set I've tried that didn't stretch was the Cloyes Street Roller. It has 3 settings, and that cam has advance ground in. I'd use the 4* retard setting. You really won't feel any loss of low-end, and the top-end will feel noticeably better.

For the cam / lifter break-in, I wouldn't run any spring stiffer than a Comp 980, Edelbrock Performer, or CP 98111. Those CP springs are adequate for your build, so those are what I'd use.

Awesome thanks alot of the info, what is the idea behind stiffer springs?, higher compression?

Stiffer springs are not good for the "break-in" period. For that, you want a lazy spring, but one that won't bind with your cam's lift. Likewise not using 1.6:1 rockers during this initial running. Then swapping stiffer springs, like comp 981s, helps control the valves at higher RPM. Stiffer springs also help with larger valves, and help when adding boost.
