Engine jerking
We all have heard about that infamous engine jerking and all of that nonsense. Noone ever tells what the engine is really doing and if the problem consists to do so after a day, a week, or even a month. Guys, in here with a serious problem and it has left me on the side if the road stranded( not actually in the middle of nowhere). My car is a 1992 camaro RS v6 with 34k miles that has been sitting in a garage or a shade tree for the better part of seven years. It is known for instantly starting up when the key is turned over, running around 160 degrees, and runs smooth with some popping in the exaust( could be from exaust leak from a hole infront of the muffler or it it slightly out of time). Other than that, it is good most of the time. Then comes the problem, after i get about 4-5 miles down the road, my car start to idle bad when i slow down, then i have to pull out with my foot barely on the accelerator because if i put anymore pressure on it, it jerks and jumps until i floor it( which i know is bad for it) and then it stops jerking with a loss of power( at full throttle). then i tried to fix the problem by turning it off( try to fix the engine timing i it jumped or what-not) but then it refuses to turn over. If i leave it overnight in the driveway and start it up in the morning, it cranks luke it would any other day, perfectly. The problem only happenes when i least want it to and the period inehich it does it ranges from once a week, once a month and even once a year. i looked at the distributor and noticed that the cap and ICM were FIlLLED with corrosion an rust so i changed those today and it is too early to see if that fixed it. Please use your extensive knoledge and experience with cars to help me.

Ignition module? Sometimes when they overheat (even just once) they start to act all whacky. Buddy had an LT1 car and it would randomly start to miss at operating temperature or just cut out completely.

The ICM is what i was referring to as an ignition control module, and i had already changed it very recently

Didn't really read what you changed lol. I'd imagine unless it's an electrical issue or ecm related you probably fixed it. A corroded cap/rotor/icm would certianly cause the symptoms you had.

Have you tried to see what codes if any are stored in the ECM?

Take a look at the IAC too, the problem starting when slowing down could be the IAC losing step count. If it's getting stuck from heat, the overnight cool down would explain why it'll crank normally.

Thanks for the imput guys, and when i said the problem only happened when i slowed down to a stop, i meant that is when it happen the majority of the time. It would acted up once while i was going down the road. Also, when i said i had my foot barely on the accelerator, i noticed the my tachometer was juming up 500-750 rpms without the engine jerking, at that moment i realized that it must have been electrical. The funny thing is my service enging light never came on while the engine was screwing up an it does check itself when i start it up so i know it works. I currently do not own a code reader but would it be a sound investment?

Code reader would definitely provide a sound basis, down here in Texas we have an automotive parts store called O'Reilly, not sure if there all over the us but they sell a gm code reader brand new for $30

A code reader for these cars is unnecessary. You can pull the codes using nothing more than a paperclip. If the light has not come there probably is nothing stored but it would be got to confirm.
