Fuel tank capacities?
Now, I'm not trying to start a war here. With that out of the way...
Is there a difference between the fuel tank capacity of early 82-85 carbureted and later fuel injected cars?
It seems to me almost like either the fuel pickup in my carbed sender is bent or it's too short to reach the bottom of my 87 tank. When the tank is "out of gas", I'm only putting between 10 and 12 gallons in it to fill it. The gauge is somewhere either just above or just below 1/4. With the fuel injected sender, I still had about 4 gallons in the tank at this point (as I had to pump it out and there was still a little gas in the tank when the pump wouldn't pump any more out), but with the carbed sender (external fuel pump), the engine is starving for fuel? I don't get it.

Re: Fuel tank capacities?
by my research, both carb'd and fuel injected cars have a 14 gallon tank. At least according to the replacement parts.

What the spec says and what you can actually squeeze into the tank are two different things.
I'd be VERY surprised if any were rated less than 14 gal, which means you can usually top it up to more than that. I've squeezed 18 gal into my '86, and it had NOT run out of fuel!
I think any less than 14 gal would be a FIRST for a production 8-cyl vehicle!

Fuel pump problems ?
This is probably the wrong thread to be posting on, but I NEED help!..I recently replaced my in tank fuel pump on my 2.8l 87 Camaro sport and now if my tank is a quarter or even a bit fuller; when I go around a corner my car losses power and almost acts as though I am running out of gas. if I keep my foot on the accelerator at this point it will start jerking as im going forward. so I have to let off the gas pedal and wait about a second or two before I step on it and then it seems to be normal, well until the next corner. what im wondering is why would it be doing this with a new fuel pump. could it be something was bent when I put it back together, so that my tank is showing a quarter when its actually very low. Idk please help haha.

I'm still looking for an answer to my original question... Is it possible that somewhere along the line my sending unit got bent? I'm still having the same issues with being completely out of gas with the gauge showing 1/4 of a tank.

Just for the info stream, my 83 carb car holds about 16 gallons as per the owners guide AND what I have put in it.

Re: Fuel pump problems ?
The tank I have, which is out of my 87, does the same thing. It doesn't have any baffles in it to prevent fuel from running away from the pickup upon hard cornering (come on, who doesn't take corners a little hard? It IS an F-body, after all ). It's not your fuel system. It's the design of the tank.
