Bent exhaust valve?
Hi Guys,
Well I might of screwed the pooch on this one. My 1990 LB9 IROC has the fans wired to a analog switch, and recently I forgot to flip it in heavy Las Vegas strip traffic. I have done this before and overheated the car well into redzone (260+). Normally she runs overcooled at about 160. Also recently I have been taking the car, while at normal temp, to about 6k. In the past I would never take it beyond 5k. A snapping cracking and poping has developed during idle and on deceleration. I have true dual and no cats. I am concerned I may have bent an exhaust valve.
What do you think? Also, should I drive it or park it until I do a compression test?

Re: Bent exhaust valve?
Over reving enough to cause valve float will cause bent valves because the valve springs can't close the valves fast enough before the piston reaches them. Only a compression and leakdown test can confirm any damage done.

Car actually ended up getting wrecked shortly (at least in terms of miles driven) after this. I sold it to someone who wants to restore it. I will make sure to do a leak down on it with him.
