I own a 85 camaro z28. Was told by previous owner the oil pan gasket is bad, and I noticed it leaking the past few days. I was hoping to fix it next year since it's a very labor intensive job.

I only plan on driving the car on the odd weekend. Will it be fine to drive even though it's leaking a bit?
any recommendations on a sealer or if I should use one at all?

Before getting all wrapped around the axle about pan gasket and labor intensive and all that other nasty stuff, check this hole and make sure there's a bolt in it.



If not, put a SHORT 3/8"-16 (std thread) bolt in there, maybe ½" long or at most ¾" with a washer or 2, with a drop of sealer on the threads. THIS YEAR.

Not sure what only driving on odd weekends would have to do with that; but w/e.

Better yet, who knows, you mighta got the car $1000 cheeeeeper than it would have been if it didn't leeeeek, which will make that bolt worth $1000.

Will check that for sure! Thanks for the heads up, I didn't even know that was a thing. For the weekend thing I was just trying to say that I won't be driving it often

Yeah, if you look in that hole, you'll see the fuel pump drive rod, if you have a mech FP. (which is why the bolt needs to be SHORT: it can clamp down on the FP rod and prevent the FP from working) In some blocks you can see the crank if there's no FP rod.
