Starter wiring?
Good afternoon, so I finally got the 88 gta to my home after sitting in my grandmother's garage for Years.
I am trying to get the starter to work and could use some help
It's a power master starter.
I have 5 red wires, one yellow and one black coming from wire loom over passenger side valve cover. Also the main power coming from battery. One red wire is going to small post on starter . The main battery wire and other reds to large post on starter. The yellow wire going to a sensor? just forward of the starter. The one black is not connected to anything and seems to short to make it back to starter.
I jumped the to posts on starter and starter does run. Can anyone help out in figuring this out as I don't have a diagram of wiring? Thanks again!

You can get all the wiring diagrams from '88 service manual here, https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...ce-manual.html
This service manual will be invaluable as you own the car through the years.

Purple is the switch signal from the cab to turn the starter on/off.

Re: Starter wiring?
Ok update and some useful info!
apparently I was wired correctly
as it turns out I replaced steering colum years ago and put the old key cylinder with chipped key taped inside it up in inside dash.
During my last computer prom update I did I disabled vats security.
as I sat I the garage for years at one point I went to straighten up some wiring under dash . I removed the key cylinder from under dash considering vats was disabled. Luckily I saved the cylinder because when I just reconnected it (two yellow wires) the starter worked!
so while stupidity was the culprit it's a good lesson learned!

Re: Starter wiring?
So, you're going to stick with the 2 key switch design, huh?

Re: Starter wiring?
lol well she's been in the garage for years and finally got her started probably first time in 6 years.. guess it's time to figure out how to remedy that situation lol
overall there was definitely a smile when she started and ran well after sitting all that time!!!!!!
I still don't know where the black wire goes. Guessing I will just ground it till I get my diagrams with proper location...
