pushrod question
Hi everybody,
I just got my comp magnum roller tip rockers and, according to comps website, I thought them to be a simple bolt-on.
But other than on their website, comp states in their installation instructions, that one should/must use new push rods with their rockers.
Other than some light mods, my enginge ist stock (see my sig)and has 67.000 miles.
Is it mandatory to use new push rods?
Does anybody here have these rockers installed using the _used stock pushrods and having any trouble with this combination?
Or do you generally install new rockers with new pushrods?
My Haynes manual doesn't say anything about this.
I am a little impatient putting them finally on, but OTOH I don't want to ruin them with my impatience.
Thank you,
A.

Factory pushrods can wear at the tip and break. The end of the pushrod can then wear through the socket of the new rocker
arm . Since I can buy them locally for cheap, I would put in
new ones.

Did you get the 1.6:1 ratio rocker arms?
If so, then 'Yes". You must change the pushrods.
In order to obtain the higher ratio, they have to move the pushrod position closer to the rocker arm stud. By doing that, it changes the length of the pushrod needed to keep the valvetrain geometery in line.
If you ordered the 1.5:1 ratio arms, then maybe they're suggesting you use hardened pushrods? I dunno on that one.
Best thing you can do is call/email their techline and ask them.

When I installed 1.6 roller tipped rockers I put .1 or .25 inch (can't remember, maybe not even that) longer than stock hardened pushrods in, I needed hardened ones because I was using guideplates. To check exactly for needed length people will tell you that you really need a pushrod length checker. I just guessed from what I had read, and it worked quite well. Those chromemoly comp cams rocker arms are good quality.

Thanks for your replies guys!
@nord: sounds reasonable what you are saying. It's a good argument for new prs. I was just confused about the fact, that comp is saying "direct replacment bolt-on for stock rockers" on their website and in their installation instructions they say something similar to what you do say. I think I'm gonna get a set of new pushrods tomorrow.
@aj:nope, they're 1.52 and comp doesn't suggest hardened pushrods in their installation instructions. I don't think the techline will help much. I'll better go safe and get new ones.
@rezinn: thanks for your response, too, man. But since I don't have 1.6s I won't need longer than stock pushrods.
