V6 Mustang

What do the newer V6 Mustangs run in the Quarter mile, they're HP ratings, and how to they compare to a Auto 92 RS LO3???

I've never raced one before and i'm just wondering how my car would stand up if i ever did....

Car: 1996 Camaro RS
Engine: v6
is your L03 stock?

i ran a '98 v6 camaro, i dropped the clutch and almost stalled cuz i wasn't watching the light and he got a jump on me. he won by a car-length, even though i almost stalled. i am not sure on the v6 mustangs though.

They can run mid 15s. The verts of course are slower.

Well it all depends. The 99+ were tuned better, like the GTs. I think that the 99+ with a 5spd and a good driver would hit the mid 15's to high, given good conditions 15.4s. The 94+ were slow as monkey *****. I think they hit anywhere from 16+, to a high 15 with a 5spd. I saw a 95 Vert with an auto hit 16.69, I asked him if he wanted to run against the Brute Force, but all he could think about was the Turbo Caravan that almost beat a Type R, and said no.

Just read MM&FF

There are 6 that are considered REALLY fast: Most are supercharged.

1. 98 running 11lbs of boost with a super 6 intake and head, plus a slew of suspension and rear work. 13.35@112

2. 94 running 14 psi of boost and a cam. 13.92@102

3. 97 running 9psi(vortech) with a split port intake and head, crower cam. 14.66@93

4. 97 running 11psi form a vortech with intake/ex. 14.6 @92

5. 2000, all engine, only thing stock is converter rear and suspension. 14.87@93

6. GET THIS: 17 year old...only thing not stock is a 75 shot and 4.10s. Probably bought it like that. yet it flies at 14.56@94.3 so he claims...but at E-town for the article he ran a best of 16.11@82.87 without it (wasn't working )

7. 99, (97 4.2 liter engine)powerdine supercharged at 13psi, 5 speed 7.5 axles, 3.73. 12.64@111 on drags and track prepped.

True, you will run into a Supercharged one occassionaly. I have never seen a supercharged v6 though. Just might not be common in my area. But what you will see a lot of times are the v6's slapping on a 75 wet shot and runing 15's still. Only supercharged car I have had the privallege of driving is a 96 Formaula with a vortech supercharger and a bunch of other ****, I felt so lucky, I got to pull it up a whole 5 ft. Made my month.

Well see the reason i asked is because i had a friend who was comming over with one......

Here's the bad news.......we raced and i lost.......

I took him off the line and held my lead until about 65-70mph, then the mustang took over till 90 mph was was ahead of me by about half a car lenght...........

That's where i draw the line, i'm going to start keeping my eye out for cheap performence parts so i can start making this thing fast, only problem is that i have no experience with engine work, so that means i need to pay for labor, so this may take a while........

Oh well, at least I held my lead off the line for a little bit....

Get big things done at the same time

Like heads, cam and intake since all those need to be taken off to do just a cam swap...and a cam is the best performance mod. The labor on that was "only" 600 for me (75 bucks an hour).

If you get roller rockers, then factor in prices for new roller rockers (285) if the ones you bought off ebay for 160 don't match up to your heads...and factor in prices for different sized pushrods if the heads were milled (100...need chromoly heat treated). And factor in the price of gaskets (100). And factor in the price of ARP pro series head bolts (200) which, unknown to me, were needed due to the recessed head bolt holes. And factor in the possibility that your car will be sitting at the auto body shop long enough for the gas to turn stale.

I thought I would be paying 1100 for this and a heater core swap. Now I am going to be paying about 1500-1600.

ALL THAT HAPPENED TO ME. Learn from it. what I thought was going to be

And factor in getting your intake milled to the correct angle to your milled heads, which was already done for me, but still a factor.

Before you buy cheap stuff on ebay ask the pros here what would be needed for those parts.

Well I'm only in high school, for those mods are way out of the question, cause i still need good gas mileage........

I'm planning on getting a LT1 cam, intake manifold, headers, remove cat & smog stuff, Posi, and the ultimate TBI mod........

That's gonna be later on though........I have some projects to do first....

Hopefully i can find someone through the boards in Florida, who would be willing to install this stuff in my car if i paid them, and hopefully save some money...............

BTW, I have an open element and removed my mufflers, with some custom exhaust work.................and i still got beat......

A friend of mine raced (had someone race) his V6 Mustang! I am not sure on the year, either 1999-2000, but it went 15.400 at 90, and it was BONE STOCK, untouched from the factory! Now he has a dual exhaust cat-back, filter, shifter, and with McCreary Dirt Tires it runs high 14s at 93! Not bad considering this is full weight, around 3100-3200 lbs, and daily driven!

The newer ones can vary though. This same car with the exhaust and McCrearys went low 16s high 15s with a bad driver!

My girlfriend has a 99 V6 mustang.. It's an auto.. When I had my firebird and it was stock, her car was a little faster.. (both were 16 second cars easy though..).. After all the mods in my sig I was finally able to walk her.. I'd suggest NOT modding an LO3.. For the same amount of money you can just sell your car, buy an L98 powered thirdgen and not do a damn thing to it... My friend bought a formula and it is much faster (and more fun to drive) than my LO3 could have been for a lot less money..
