99 Cobra and (2) 5.0's go down
Raced a 99 Cobra and 2 5.0L's.
99 Cobra and I line up. I heated up the drag radial's pretty well and thought I'd get a nice holeshot on him (since I put 3 cars on an LT1 Camaro a couple weeks ago before his rear bumper passed the starter). WRONG! I must have spun 150-200 ft. The road was TERRIBLE. It was the first time I raced at this spot and the temp was in the 40's, so I'm sure the street was cold. Then I missed the 1-2, and did a 1-3 and had to downshift back into 2nd (my auto tranny shifts weird when cold). Still got him by about 5 cars.
Now I line up next to a modded 5.0L Stang. I heat the dr's extra long this time and do some practice launches. It just isn't hooking, at all. So I REALLY EASE into it off the line and nail all 3 shifts and LEAVE him, no idea on the number of cars, 8 or so?
So now I line up next to this other modded 5.0L. Sounds much more wicked than the first. This guy's car is supposed to be pretty wicked. So we start and he, of course, gets me off the line by a few feet. Then I shift into 2nd and start to pull on him and he misses 3rd. So we go again. Same thing happens, he barely gets me out of the hole b/c I'm spinning like mad and I hit 2nd gear and finally hook. I start to gain on him pretty good, ready to fly past him and he misses another shift. So that was the night. I think this guy was supposed to run high 12's. He was pretty quick.
If I would have been able to hook, I would have holeshotted these guys pretty bad. This is the first time I've EVER had such traction issues with my IROC. Anything over 1/2 throttle in 1st gear (which is up to 45 MPH) would just spin the tires like being on ice. Still, I'm pretty happy I walked these guys in 2nd and 3rd gears, b/c the real strength of my car is the holeshot and 1st gear.

I'm just playin' around. If everything went just right, I'd squeeze out 12.3s on DRs. So, he'd probably kill me, too, but I just hate to see him picking on my mustang brethren. Besides, wouldn't it be cool to put an AFR/cammed 5.0 up against and AFR/cammed 350?
