Theoretical Safe racing...

Well, we all know how steady thirdgens are, but what's up with these 5 people hit by some import in Portsmouth, VA? I read the post about the tech issue, so I'd like to keep this tech related. Let's not flame the import guys (driving an import alone does not mean someone is stupid). This happened last night right down the street from me, Airline Blvd in Portsmouth, VA. I never checked these guys out myself, but I heard it was a heavy racing spot, mostly for the imports.

The driver will be charged with involuntary manslaughter or 2nd degree murder, if the victim dies.

so, as we all brew our thoughts about the import crowd, let's think about how we keep our cars safe and what specifically we've done to avoid such tragedies....

here's what i have to say: 1st mods should be, front end rebuild, brake upgrade, struts....larger rims with better tires...then power

or, keep this 'theoretical racing' on the track and risk our own lifes.

I always prefered lots of friends with scanners and two way radios, to be sure we had the roads all to ourselfs, if you are going to break the law, at least be smart about it.

maybee the victims should have known the risks too, how often have you stood on the sidelines of a race?

"Think about how many stupid *** teenagers in momy's grocery getter or 20 year old thugs in fart tipped neons you see doing the same. Someone was bound to get hurt and killed from the begining of this whole annoying fad of neon lights and loud subwoofers in the back of $800 cars." 'reuter, chevy M6-Z28 from dragva.com

nicely put, but there are some $800 thirdgens on the road as well, with shabby chassis and drivers as well.

this stuff upsets me as a former 'street racer' , I am not preaching to anyone, I am fortunate to be alive today. Simply be aware of what risks you pose to yourself and others, what ever you do.

"The Police are looking for '03 gold civic, w/custom rims with some sort of writing or striping on the side."

"The Police aprehended the driver of the black thirdgen rx7"

I apologize if I've stepped beyond the subject matter of this forum, but for more info and other nonsense, check out www.dragva.com/forums/general discussion........please tech only responses here at TGO for the benifit of other readers.

That thread is so hot that I'm having a hard time getting anything on drag to load and I don't remember what time everyone is supposed to be meeting tonight

That really burns me up inside. That parking lot in front of Ames was packed with all kinds of cars and people everywhere every time I ever went out that way. What really gets me is how dumb can you possibly be to be racing IN A CROWDED PARKING LOT!!!! This is a perfect example of how a few bad apples always spoil it for everyone. Skip to page 4 of the thread, that's where it gets real interesting with the driver of the RX-7's brother coming in on it.

As far as keeping it safe, do it away from bystanders, other cars, etc. where the only one that stands a chance to get hurt is you and the guy you're racing. There's nothing wrong with taking a risk from time to time, but endangering other people's lives is downright foolish and irresponsible. I hope Wayne's brother rots in a prison cell for a long time and I hope, for Wayne's sake, that he never has the nerve to show his face at any spots in the tidewater area again.

gathering....

I heard from dragva there will be a gathering at a walmart parking lot 20:00 (that's 8:00 pm) on 288? my girlfriend just saw this on some other thread, but it can not be accessed now.

thanks for your input, we are not all as stupid as they say we are in the 757 area,...banjo music here.....most of us aren't from here anyways.

we are looking to walmart website to find this out.

I hope this event is the first and last of this kind, at least for this summer. too many youngsters in this area feel the need to fly top speed to Va Beach on I-264 and impress the girls and whatever, there are too many stupid 'mixed military population' drivers on the roads to be going these speeds!! this is not mutual NASCAR on I-495 in Boston, there are people in this state who have no business even sitting in a vehicle's driver's seat.

FYI: I once had a woman in a Ford Explorer switch over three lanes only to cut me off in the left lane. i was driving an '85 Jetta GL, late for work minding my own business, going one hundred miles per hour. the first thing I did, was 'pre-heat' the brakes, and attempted to move around, this BLEEP stayed in front of me, she WANTED me to hit her! a VW at 100 mph would have tossed her ugly SUV right off of the road. Personal injury in exchange for $$ seems like a dumb idea to me, but this woman obviously had no intelligence standards to begin with. I didn't hit her, but I flat spotted all four of my nice Michelin rain X tires and probably began losing my hair at 18. the lesson learned is that people are snakes, so if you are on the road, don't expect ANYONE to care about your life!

I definitly plan on aquiring another thirdgen (hopefully a GTA) and joining SCCA for some real fun, I've also lost some hair in my slow T/A outmanuvering the cops...I prefer not to try that again.

Ended up with about 25 people showing up at the Walmart. Pretty nice turnout and nobody doing anything stupid, but I'm sure once the word gets out that it'll attract the idiots. You can't have fun anywhere anymore without the ricers ruining it for everyone.

Toronto has been a hot-spot for weekend midnight street racing. I've seen alot more ricers on the roads over the years. So much so my friends and I have really gotten turned off by the whole thing. Ever meet at a hang-out loaded with new and older domestic's and then have the ricers show up?? Ever said, (or have a friend say) "WTF look at these these guys let's get outta here!". I find most of these guys are a heat-score. I've seen them rip in and out of parking lots and do alot of other stupid things. I mean....who the hell races around neighbourhoods, along and across major intersections, and on the highways ****'n doing laps??! Like this is some dumb-*** road rally race. Gimme a break. They just end up endangering us all. It's unfortunate because it's usually the innocent public who end up getting killed. We have the city police cracking down heavily on these "2FAST2FOOLISH" dumba$$'s. It's nice to see the chopper out and the cruisers pulling over the ricers.....while I drive by. I think they should stick to their duma$$ video games and dumba$$ movies. There is always "a place" and "a time". It's unfortunate alot of these guys don't understand this concept.

down in toms river, there was a kid last year who hit a dip in the road, did a 360 and tore his car in half at the firewall... both kids in the car were training to be staties... both died. Most poeple now down in toms river go to old airports or small roads that no one travels. Also, a TGO member last year died in a bad car accedent. GTA-Palidin(sp?) was his user name. That was pretty bad. It kinda makes you just put in a 12pt cage just to be safe.

One of the first things I'm going to do when I get the money is put in at least a 4 pt cage. I've rolled a car because the road was ****ty and gave out underneath me (It was dirt and the shoulder crumbled). Scary as hell. I don't even speed anymore because I'm always getting cut off by kids that can't drive in the first place and don't want to screw up my baby.

Before I joined the Army, I lived in No. Cali, and we used to race on this little two lane road that had really wide shoulders, and was right between two empty fields (farm land), and no one ever stood forward of the start, not that it was planned that everyone stood back, that's just sort of the way the guys who were there first did it so everyone followed along with it I guess. I never saw anyone get hurt in the 3 years I went out to race (every Friday night). Still the cops shut it down by what I'm told.

Be safe, and smart, out there. Know your limits, and your car's limits.

wyoming is full of safe places to race. We raced on a butte with a uphill shutdown area for the faster drum brake cars

You can see the headlights of on coming cars for 15 minutes or so before they get there. We had a spotter at the finish line to transmit results via PCS walkietalkie phone. No more than two cars on the road at a time. That means until the last two return and get parked nobody else is allowed out of thier parking spots. Two of the racers are EMT's. The younger Sherriffs have tried to harass us but a few of the older ones actually used to race with us. They warn us when the younger guys are coming via cellphone.

we have been using the same spot since 1991 and some summers the rubber gets thick enough that when we sweep and spray down the launch pad with VHT you can hang the skinnies.

F NJ... there are no cool places that cops let you go... Toms River is insane. It used to be big on 37, now people have fled to other surounding places or quiter parts of 37. The highway is still a HUGE hang out for all cars.. always cool to go down durring the weekend.. plus you have the beach right down the road.. but the cops are even bigger di<ks there... there are no crusing laws and reving engine laws and all this other BS.
