87 T/A vs 05 Mustang GT

Well I was actually worried about this one but I had to try him out, It was my buddy and his 05 Mustang GT 5 speed, i know these things are getting pretty ballzy and hes already got a nice exaust on it(no clue what kind) so heres how it went down: started from a red light both launched with no wheel spin, he of course has the upper hand being a manual (and a pretty good driver), i get the jump on him immdiatly and by the time i hit 100 or so i think he had long gave up, so next we went from a roll i had the horn so we matched up about 2200 rpm in 2nd for me, and there the horn went, raped him even harder, again he gave up by the time i let off, so well all i have to say is that im not too afraid of the stock GTs anymore, and i wasted about 5 gal. of gas.

Well with your mods you have the power advantage so the outcome seems about right.

Whats your 1/4? High 12's? I am running 13.5s with the stock heads and cam. So you must be alot quicker. I actually came across an 05 Mustang today. Wasnt in my car though, had the mothers GT. I like to steal it here and there lol.

Going from a 9 to a 10 bolt is a pain in the neck. Going from a 2.77 9-bolt to a 3.42 10 bolt cost me around 1,200.

She hasnt been on the track since the brain transplant from the 305 LB9 where she ran a low 15 at carlsbad, not suprisingly, what year GT is your moms, there fun cars, especially if its not your gas

Yea thank *** i dont have a 9 bolt on my t/a thats probably one of my next changes, the 2.73's can use some real help, thats the reason i never changed the gears on my camaro, should be easy on the t/a though

why is it a pain? It's a direct swap and the rear end can be found used for about $100 bucks. Why the bloody hell did you pay $1200 for that? You got SOOOO ripped off lol

We actually now own a 2006 Mustang GT 5-speed car and my SOTP guess would be mid 13s in good weather. The car pulls better than the 99-04 cars (which I have seen plenty of high 13s to 14.0s bone stock).

Definately a nice kill as exhaust would make his car a bit faster, but you should have easily had him still!

How do you like it for a daily driver? Or how would you like it as a daily driver? whichever applies

the 05/06 stangs actually dont have any more power than an older 93-97 LT1 car did. Their main advantage (and the reason they can run mid 13s bone stock) is the fact that when launched right are capable of pulling a 1.8 short time right off the factory floor, tires and all.

i didnt mention one thing in the post which might have slowed him down, ive never seen the number difference, but he did have the factory 20" rims from ford, cars still suppose to be in the 13's though.

Well the factory doesnt have 20" rims, but dealers have been putting them on cars for a long time. The dealer we got ours at had a black 06 vert with 20s, Borla axle back, and steeda lowering springs on it!

As far as a DD goes, the car would make a very nice one I think. Its comfortable, good stereo (we got the shaker 500 not the 1000) and just feels good all around. Granted we only have about 200 miles on the car, but I think its only going to break in and feel better!

O Good to know for refrence, it was more just to tell people that maybe it was a little slower than regular rim running on 20's not really that they came like that from the factory as i stated, but thanks. As for the DD, its good to know, I heard what confirms what you said but with the 1000 stereo system, which i heard is WOW!, that is unless you wanna change the system, its suppose to be one of the hardest and most expensive domestic cars to change, since i have seen the GT500 at the LA auto show i have been contemplating saving up since the price the spokesman said almost dropped me for what it was, but we will have to see of course, i did see the new camaro too, so i guess its a waiting game til there both out.

People say the same about having 15s or 16s on our cars... I personally think the 05-06s can get away with 20s, but do love the look of my brothers stock 17s!

I will say this, you cant really appreciate this or any car unless you get near it, under it and in it. And I personally didnt start to love it until we got to the dealer and realized it was going to come home with us! Now I flat out love the car, and even with my drag racing blood, I am advising my brother to leave it stock for a while!

Agreed!! It looks great but i dont know how much it effects performance, but i figure it would that why i didnt go bigger than 17", truthfully when i was a teenager i did want some 20" irocs for my camaro, but then i realized i wanted to go as fast as possible as cheap as possible of course.

I've never seen a set of "dubz" that looked good. 18" max for me.

Truthfully, i do like huge rims, just not for any of my applications, my bro-in law has a silverado with 24's and i like the look and as long as you upgrade the hell outta suspesion you can get a good ride out of it still.

My car had the austrian 9 bolt rear so you couldnt just drop anything in it.. I couldnt find any gears for it except 3.70's. So I got a 10 bolt and had to have it setup for disc brakes.

The new GTs are way too overrated. People think they are the best thing in the world and there not. It dosent suprise me that he killed it. My friend and I were in his 96 Sentra and his car has like 250k miles on it and we ran with a 05 V6 Mustang and the car beat us but barely. He had us by less than a car lenght. I know this isnt a V8 stang but my friends Sentra is pos!

Yeah and your experience with them is???

OHHH what you have read on Fbody web sites, alright. When I need an EXPERT opinion, I will look you up!

I HAVE one sitting in the garage about 5 feet from me right now. I just got back in from driving it, and also know a lot of personal friends who have owned them, and gone fast with them... you might think Im Mustang biased (we do own 6 in my immediate family) but I also love Fbodies and all kinds of cars and can say for someone to say its over rated because their fiend raced a V6 and beat it... is pretty sad!

Ill let the people on the board here decide whose opinion to take, the kid who owns one, drives it, and has had past experience with them, or the kid whose friend raced a V6 version!

Edit: Oh yeah I gave your friend credit for beating the V6 when he didnt even beat it... Congrats!

They are quick cars. With the right driver they can run in the 13.4 range.

wooooh mr. mustang! i have an opinion and can state it. that is what message boards are all about, right? Dont get me wrong I like mustangs and have always dreamed of owning a Saleen, but i just dont like the new ones. In fact my next car/truck will most likely be a F-150 Lightning. I am a huge fan of Camaros and i dont like the new concept so dont think im trying to dis mustangs. AND im not making my opinion on when my friend raced the V6. I know the V6 mustang is not a performance car. Now the reason I think they are over rated is because of there price. Im not saying the GT is a slow car at all and i know that a Gt would smoke me with the tbi, i just dont think i would buy a Gt unless Ford dropped there price down about 10k. And for you to get all in my face like that because you dont like my opinion is bullcrap. I have the right to say anything i please unless if effects somelse in a violent or threating way.

they may run 13s with the right driver, but from what ive seen, the average driver has no chance of 13s.

Ive seen 3 05 GTs and the track. the coupe did 14.6 and the two verts did low 15s. consistantly

Talk about bad drivers lol. Ive seen a stock 99 GT run 14.0. Thats with the 260 hp 4.6 motor. So the 300 hp motor should easily be in the 13's.

And your opinion is crap, I have the right to say that too, right??? Not violent or threatening, but pretty much common sense by now!

Ok so you, a TBI owner, wouldnt buy one of the best bang for buck new cars out there (my brother got his on order for $24,500). So you want them to put the car out for $14,000??? Yeah, I guess Ford will miss their ONE customer in you!

I will let all you guys know what the car runs. My brother would be the average driver as he doesnt race and hasent been driving stick very long, and I will be what the car can run (I have been driving sticks for a Long time, and have yet to be beat by anyone in any car ) My guess by how it feels in this good air we have, is 13.5s! I have only launched it a couple times (300 miles on the car) and can say they come out of the hole very nice!

Im with you on this one.

25th, dont worry, too many people here hate mustangs because they have been beat by them too many times. Bang for the buck goes to the mustang. Has for a long time. Probably one of the main reasons there is no Fbody at this time.

Hopefully when the camaro comes back it wont be an overpriced POS.

Yeah, The best bang for the buck in its class goes to the GT. Overall id give it to the new Vette. I think the new Camaros will be pricey. My guess would be around 35K with the LS2 option.

Refer to previous post please a$$wad!!!

BTW: I have only been beat by one mustang, and that was one of my best friends whos family owns 4 Fox-Bodies, and that was when i had a 305, and his was on Drag Radials, and during the whole post i talked up the mustang. But i dont drag race any kid who revs on me, so i would have probably been beat by more than one if i did.

Are you still on this? I would hate to see you with a REAL problem you probaly wouldnt know what to do. When i went to a ford dealership i couldnt find a new gt under 30k. But hey that was a year ago. Oh and 87tpikid im extremely sorry how your post ended up. I guess ill just keep my opinions to myself on this forum because we got people that think its not ok to have them. (dont want to get anybody else pissed off!) oh, and if your so in love with your mustang(s) why are you on a GM forum?

Welcome to the internet.

Does anyone really expect everyone to agree with their "opinions"? Get real.

Face it folks. Ford has done a lot of things right with the mustang. It outsells all of GM's "performance" cars combined. Overrated? Ha. That's funny. RWD, 300hp cool looks, lightweight, and readily available for $27k. Lets see what GM has to counter this.......uh......oh yea nothing. Sales figures don't lie people. I love GM to death but just because you have a car that may run 1 second quicker in the 1/4 than a competitor does not justify the huge cost. Ford is not begging people to buy the mustang. However, new GTO's that were 34k are now down to 29k in a desparate attempt to unload the last of this failing fleet.

This thread is dead. Peace.
