Silly Dodge Magnum

Well i was on my home yesterday from getting a hair cut, drving on a 2 lane street. See this magnum with the hemi about 10 lengths back just weaving betweent the two lanes. He eventuly gets up next to me, i notice the car has some 20's on it and the 2 guys in the car are just blaring some music for the whole city to hear. Traffic slows in front of us so i down shift, blipping the throttle a bit and doing this i think they thought i was reving at them. The two lanes merge to one and he's behind me just weaving back and forth like hes trying to pass me.

About a minute after this traffic clears and goes back to two lanes, at this moment I hear him step on it and comes flying around me, they both just look at me as they start to pass me laughing away. I let their door get about to my nose of my car before i gas it. My tires just start squealing all the way to my 6800 shift point and it was classic to see both there heads swing around when i just pass them like they were standing still. I hit 3rd and shut it down now having at least a bus length on them.

I know it wasn't exactly a fair race, but it was fun, and they wanted to pick on the poor slow thirdgen............or at least they thought was slow

Great kill indeed. The Hemi.... er cough...carbon copied LS1 just now showed up when the Gen IV motors arrived. Congrats Chrysler, welcome to 1997. I hate the fake hemi because of the idiots that worship the commercials and vomit the trendy Hemi lingo back in your face when they drive one. It would be a cool motor if GM never designed it for them. Nothing like a healthy dose of R & D, rip off and duplicate.

Your car sounds like a monster and should put any 340hp + 4500 lb + 4dr disgraced charger slug in its place. Chalk one up for the good guys

Thanks guys, but i wouldn't dog that hemi too much. I know it took a while for them to come out with it, but once they put that thing in a real car like that challenger, i bet they will get a lot more respect.

Putting those things in heavy 4 door cars gives that motor no respect, even tho it is a ls1 copy LOL. The problem is most of the guys that drive them think they were touched by the hand of god since it says HEMI on the side of their car. All well i'll take my good old GM built LS1 any day............god i love this motor.

Well they're stupid, we ALL know God handbuilt the LS1 himself. God is brand loyal. There's no way he'd build the LS1 and and then build the Hemi. I think God is very angy that someone copied his design, if I were a Hemi owner I'd be worried....

I love Firebirds. My Favorite. I am a Mopar guy though. I would race a magnum with my Firebird and I think it would beat me. Maybe not off the line but they move to 60mph faster than my car. (I did beat a Dodge Truck Hemi though. I was still ahead of it and accelerating past 120 when I slowed down to let him pass). But the guys driving the magnum sounded like they were retards. I don't hate Dodge for using Kick *** advertizing and selling their cars(using the HEMI name) but I hate the people that think that they are cool because of the HEMI. Why hate A sweet Grocerie getter like the magnum. Nomads would do the same thing. It is the people driving them that suck sometimes not the car.

I agree with ya there, the driver makes the car, the car doesnt make the driver (with in reason of course)

My roommate's got a Charger (traded in his '99 Z28) and it's a really nice car. I can't make fun of the interior like I can a third gen. He's got navigation that kicks ***, it's a HUGE car so there is tons of room. It needs a manual though. It's no slouch, but it's fastest from a roll where it can kick down into a lower gear. The other thing he wishes it had were xenon lights (I think, I don't remember if they are or not) and day time running lights.

They are a nice car, just not a charger. If you look at as just a 4 door saden, then its a pretty cool car.

I believe GM has "reopened" the books on that motor and the new truck line may see a version of it. The DOD system allowed them to reconsider it. There is also rumors of a 551 LSX motor. GM high tech mag reported on both of these motors. Cool stuff.

im not a fan of the new gas powered dodge rams, except for the SRT-10. The diesel rigs are okay, but I liked the old cummins motors better.

I have a 1994 RCLB 2wd 2500 with the 8.0 V10, Auto, 3.92s. It is fun for a fullsize truck. It has no problems eating those Hemi's. It only has 300 HP @ 4,300, but has 470 TQ @ 2,800. I have a feeling that it is a good bit underated. Mine has headers, exhaust, and a small comp cam in it.

I love chevy... but my dad, step mom, and brother drive hemi pickups lol. and my brothers singlcab 2wd hemi is pretty damn fast for a stock pickup.. my dad has cancer and its gotten to the point where he cant really drive anymore. so they are taking his and my step moms trucks and trading them in on a srt-10 in the morning.. its an unfortunate situation but ill be one of the few 2o year olds to test drive a $50k truck .

Yeah, and once you die your debt gets obsolved, unless you're married. You only live once, so you might as well be so poor that you're barely living at all the whole time.

Wait a minute

RWD V8 Magnum 0-60 in 5.8 that brings detroit back to coolness and muscle car days. Or a disgraceful FWD Malibu, or Monte Carlo. Chrysler has their head in the right direction. We are coming back to the days of the RWD stationwagons that haul ***! Not just station wagons but all cars. Now my Firebird (1988 305) is not supposed to accelerate to 60 under 7 seconds. so how are these cars slow? they are family cars.

Here in South Carolina (and I'm sure some of you have heard this) the Richland County Police (some of them) drive 1998 Camaros, v8, manual transmission, and they are soon going to be selling all the Camaros and "upgrading" to the new hemi powered Dodge Magnum. PUKE

What I think is funny is if you play dumb and ask 95% of the HEMI owners what exactly does that mean or is in reference too, they usually go DUAAH, DUAAAAH you know its a HEMI........That is so funny, just look at them standing speachless....isnt it something to do with the emblem.....lol.

i compare the charger to the GTO. they both are about the same class. enough room for 4.. and sedan like but do have good power and decent handling

i dig them both and SRT8's are quick as hell. 6.1 liters = LS2

The Challenger may be a two door, but it looks to weigh in around the same as the rest of the Hemi powered cars. At least the concept was, it was over 4100 lbs... Assuming the new Camaro actually comes out and has a LS2 level powerplant (should have a LS3 by then) it will drop kick that overweight pig...

Since when did GM patent an aluminum engine? That polymer plenum was in 4.0L V8 XK8s before they GM used them in LS1s ('96-present). Hemis aren't ripoffs of anything, they are modern updates of an old Chrysler powerhouse. Instead of being large, heavy, iron big blocks, they are what all modern performance cars use, smaller, high efficiency, aluminum engines. Likenesses are meaningless because they are so general. 5.7 and 6.1 displacements are also arbitrary, the bore and stroke of the motors are completely different
