1/4 tbi
I've read alot about tbi's limits or whatever and it looks like its almost impossable to achieve lower than about 13.5. Are low 13's or maybe high 12's possable with a tbi?
----------
Let me include im trying to grudge race a 5.0 rustang with full exhaust, intake and slicks, he pulls prety consistent low 14's.

Correct. Fast355 recently went 11.87 with a 305 TBI set-up. The key to making any TBI system fast is PROM tuning. Throwing parts at it doesn't work which has sparked years of hearsay and misnomers on this board that TBI is the problem.

Your boy in the Mustang doesnt know how to drive. Is it a Fox or an SN-95?That car should be running at least low-14s all stock with slicks.

This could be true, I went 13.0 @ 103 with exhaust, Intake and tires... Low 14s wouldn't be impossible with a TBI though, so be happy his is slow for whats done to it.

Fox bodies have a nice weight advantage, but i will never give up my 3rd gen looks for speed. i'll just keep dumping money into my Camaro.

Re: 1/4 tbi
Hes pretty experienced with how to launch and come to find out it was a lx 5.0 with headers and some kind of 3'' catback system, also a k&n filter. with a .5 reaction he managed a 1.9 somthing 0-60' and a best of 14.3 I dont remember the mph. Last season I ran a 14.7 @ 95mph, a .7789 reaction with seriously bald toyos, half tank, 210 engine temp and my girlfreind in the car. Also the 0-60' was 2.0001.lol. I was so disapointed. Last friday test and tune night with new tires at 15psi, oil change, new cap and rotor, new plugs, 180 engine temp, and just me in the car I pulled 9.13 @ 76.25mph. Only had 1/8 that night.

Re: 1/4 tbi
Ive gone 14.5 with tbi on a peg leg 3.08. With a good chip and gears I have no doubt of a 13.9 maybe 13.8 traction permiting. I havent ''dumped'' money into my third gen 2500$ for my engine including instalment. 500$ for a paint job, because I did all sanding myself,1200$ to have my trans rebuilt including a b&m stage 2 shift kit. I am in love with this car, totally and completely, and no matter how stuborn I may sound I do not believe a stang is a fix to my need for speed, only one fix for my lust for speed and thats a healthy chevy small block in a classic chevy car, sorry, but I hate stangs. If I owned one or like them Id be in a ford forum somewhere hating chevys.

Noone expects you to hate Chevys or love Mustangs, just if you plan to race them, always know what they are capable of. If he has a filter, exhaust and tires only, he could go into the 13s. If he truly had an intake, gears, and bolt ons, they have been known to run low 13s, and sometimes into the 12s. Again never hurts to know what the competition can actually do!

Yea I know thier capable of hauling, I do know my enemy just kind of feels like your doubting my capabilities because of my tbi, and I dont think tbi is that much of an impedament. I respect you 25thmustang you have some cajones coming into a camaro forum with a stang, dont get me wrong I also respect your ride, but around here 80s stangs and maros are old, ragged, and generally outdated, and to see one hit low 14s is very rare.

Re: 1/4 tbi
Sounds like the Fbodies in my area, never see nice ones and unless they are race cars or have insane motors, they seem to barely be 14 second cars. A shame really, it's usually the ******* owners that ruin it for the car.
Not doubting your TBI but that induction set up is a bottle neck for the most part. They can run, but do hit a wall after a while. You should have your friend covered if you think you have 13s in it, but from my experience he has room to improve his times also.

Wow those are awesome times. Most of the articles ive seen have the 87-92 GT/LX 5-speed cars running mid 14's.

Re: 1/4 tbi
These cars like to be abused... Even in crappy air we have run decent times. Would you believe explorer heads, stock cam, cobra intake and bolt ons on a 25 mpg street car could go 12.26 @ 109 with a density altitude of 3240 feet?
