My 91 formula 350 vs lexus gs 400
Well I was cruising along and this lexus comes flying by me. Pissed me off because I don't like getting cut off. My response? catch up at the next red light and just look over. Some richy looking girl gives me that look like whatever, try it, I dare you. You guys know the look haha. So we both take off, literally neck and neck the whole way till I have to let off because there's someone in my lane. So not a kill, but it was still a fun run.

Yep lol same. I looked it up and its got around 300 hp and 310 fp/torque. Plus my cars not running Quite right cuz the map sensor is acting up. I was pretty surprised it was keeping up like it was.

t really racing you . Trust me. A 350 tpi even with bolt ons will not beat a 300 hp car.

Wrong again. The way Lexas and most other modern luxury sedans, rate there HP and TQ using an average and Linear method. Not to say it dosent produce say 300 or so FWHP. But its alot different through a 6 or 7 speed automatic transmission. And weighing in over 4000 pds, with a chick driving it. A healthy L98 car should take the win in any race with it, 1/8th, 1/4, light to light, besides a really long high speed type thing. But that isnt racing anyway.

Power to weight ratios ,just for the record : 240hp trans am L98 weighing 3400lbs=0.070
and a 300 hp Lexus GS400 weighing 3693=0.081. Which do u think is faster?

NO, a thirdgen has a lot of torque. That gets it going pretty quick,BUT they get overtaken quickly by newer cars because we lack hp. If you try and race an LT1 you will be seeing taillights

i understand that on paper those cars are much faster. and 8 out 10 times will walk an l98. but that 144,xxx mi. cai, cat back exhaust, auto trans am did not catch me til 80ish mph. you should be happy that slow old thirdgens can stil hang sometimes.

Re: My 91 formula 350 vs lexus gs 400
wow guys lol wasn't trying to start a war on here. Just telling what I thought was a cool story. And I don't really care about what the numbers say I know what I raced and I know how I did. This girl wasn't holding back. She was driving way too fast before I pulled up next to her, so I have no reason to think she was holding back for my sake. And the way she was driving, I'd put money on her engine and trans being pretty beat up. And mine are both in great shape(remanned jasper, clean-shifting trans I just dropped in a month ago). I know I probably shouldn't have been able to keep up lol, but I thought it was pretty cool that I did. If it had gone a bit longer though, she probably would have started to pull ahead.

lol no war here. friendly difference of opinion. 91 is right, a gs400 or lt1 should walk even the hottest l98. but if u catch the right one on the right day it can be a good run.

Tried to start something with an acura earlier. no luck but I've got a grudge against them (got sick of being stomped by them while I was driving my 305 ) so anytime I see one that looks to be remotely fast I try to get em goin. No luck today though haha.

A well driven L98 with bolt ons will EASILY WALK a STOCK LT1 or GS400.

THere you go again, Why do u keep mis informing these new guys on here? I own a family car similar to a Lexus gs400 and it runs a 14 flat. I have been modifying my L98 car for years and while it is a great car , it still wont beat our family car. What planet are you from where you think a tpi car with bolt ons will "easily walk away" from an LT1 or Lexus Gs400 that makes power up high in the rpm's like that? Stop MIS INFORMING people on this site.

If rhey have equal HP or close to equal HP like this example the one with more torque will dominate the lesser torque engine. You forget I have had a low 14 second TPI that started out in the low 15s in a 5500 lbs tank.

Your the only idiot misinforming people on this whole site, and everyone knows it. You own a 350 TPI car with who knows what done to it and your saying you can't touch a 14 sec. family car? Really? Oh wait, thats right your the guy who said TPI cars can't hit 13s with bolt ons. Your also the clown who quotes Car and Driver or MotorTrend for quartermile times.

The way I see it, anything external to the engine is bolt on. Cam and what not, is internal. But, like I said, that's how I see it.

No, bolt ons are things like Cold air induction, headers, aftermarket runners, throttle body, power pulleys, fan switch, exhaust systems. Bolt ons are things that don't require you to dis-assemble your engine. Heads definatley require you to dis-assemble your engine. Same thing with a cam.

bolt ons usually don't require any computer re-tuning either. Heads and or a cam definitely would tho.

If you couldn't bolt up an L98 car to run with, and take LT1 cars. Then what's the point of bolt ons and modifying our cars. Yes, Of course a bolt on, healthy L98 can take a stock LT1. There's been hundreds of members on this board over the years that have done, and are doing just that. And it doesn't take too much to run down a stock 4th gen LT car on the street. I think ninety one just never learned how to put his foot to the floor, if he's has " all the bolt ons that count"
