Join The Ottawa FBody Club!

Hi FBody owners,

I am looking for people who would like to join the Ottawa FBody club. We are a club of approximately 25 cars - Camaros, Firebirds and a few Corvettes who enjoy these fantastic cars. Corvette and non FBody cars are welcome, just have to love Camaros and Firebirds to join our club. Membership cost is $30.00 initially which gets you a club t-shirt and $20.00 annually thereafter. We have a few activities planned for this year and would love for you to join. Please email me at layssen@aol.com.

Thanks,
Hylton Jorssen

Sounds kind of interesting. What are some of the events and the dates for them you have? How many 3rd gens in the group? Mostly 4th and some 1st or 2nd gen??
Are you interested in "cross-promotion"? Have some dates here for Shannonville dragnights, June 17 & Aug 12. (they also have one July 8 for anyone interested) Any interest in these? (make the numbers grow)
Give a little more info/history on the club please. (past/present get-togethers, frequecy, etc, etc.) Thank you.

Hi Buddy,

Very intererested in cross promotion and/or joint activities. The club has been around since 2001 and we have in the past held joint events with the Toronto FBody club. I am very interested in doing something on your August date in Shannonville. Will the Toronto FBody club be participating then?

The club had quieted down last year but it's my job to get things going again. Club members will also be getting discounts at local GM dealerships for parts and merchandise.

With the exception of the Kanata and Orleans car shows, we want to keep the events down to one event per month during the summer due to the amount of effort and commitment that is required.

We do not currently have anything planned for June just yet because we are focussing on growing the club.

For July, we are currently planning a cruise on July 16th to Hudson Quebec which is about 1 1/2 hours from Ottawa. We will hopefully be meeting the Montreal Fbody club there for dinner. Will have a nice cruise back to Ottawa after.

Your August Shannonville event would fit in nicely in our schedule. We may also be holding a 'Run what you brung' event at Luskville in August. Updates to follow.

Our September event will be a cruise up to Wakefiled Quebec from Ottawa to enjoy the fall colours and have lunch in Wakefiled.

We will also be showing up as a club to the local Kanata and Orleans car shows a few times this season.

We are mostly 3rd and 4th gen cars but would like to have all years involved. We even have a few newer Corvettes.

Hope you join!

BTW I may have met you at Luskville 2 years ago and I was asked to join then. It was a 98+ Z28(dk blue) and a 93-97 Z28(silver). I was in a black third gen that you said was running as fast as some in the club(was stock at that time). I'll shut up now, it probably was'nt even you.

The annual dues are to be used when needed for any promotional needs or cost of activities. If we host a car show for example, we will need money for door prizes, food, and promotional costs.

All money goes toward the benefit of the club members. Nobody is getting paid to do anything and no money will be spent for anything not club related. Besides, if I can get you a 15-20% discount at various suppliers throughout the Ottawa area, why wouldn't you pay 20 dollars for that? Ever buy something at full pop at GM these days? You'll be happy when your eprom or MAF needs to be replaced.

Find me an active car club that does not have annual dues. Nothing unusual here.

Thanks,
Hylton

Based on the two cars, I think you met Paul and John.

Paul has a Blue juiced Z28. A couple of us went to some meets a couple years ago. One was at Casey's near Silver City, and we also joined in a trip down to Blockhouse in Brockville. At that time we were the only 3rd gens in the club.

We weren't in the club last year. neither of our cars were on the road.

It was myself(Dave) and AcceldZ(Paul).

As Dave mentioned, we attended a couple of meets 2 summers ago. Everybody was very friendly and we had a pretty good time. The club did kind of have a "wine and cheese" feel to it though.

Meh, i'll probably join anyway

If you knew the money and commitment it takes to run a club you probly would'nt ask that question .........it cost BIG money to run a club properly .

Thanks for the kind words guys. It may have had the wine and cheese thing in the past but we want to be able to have at least one event that will please everyone. We want to focus on the following:

Cruises
Car shows
Car clinics
meet & greets
drag racing
circuit racing

I realize that not everyone is going to be interested in everything so as a club (especially catering to the FBody), you need to have activities that will interest a vast group of guys. 1st and 2nd gen guys like to go staight down a track as fast as possible where 3rd and 4th gen guys like to also turn a "g" in a corner, mainly because we can and the older guys can't . Stock vs. stock, we can whip their asses as well. And for what it's worth, we 3rd genners are the best looking cars right?

Cruises may interest you if you would like to take your wife or girlfriend to a nice lunch or dinner (brownie points guys!)

Drag racing is for most of us who do not have garage queens.

Shannonville would be more for us 3rd and 4th genners.

Car shows would be for all of us.

This is not a club where you have to volunteer for something. It is for the masses and I welcome any suggestion such as the Shannonville outing. Great idea!

Also for those who are concerned about the club annual dues, I will try and keep them as low as possible. If we have a year where we have a lot in the kitty, current members may not have to pay anything. This is not a money making adventure of any kind.

Any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I have never joined a club and thats was the only reason I asked about the fee, I was honestly just curious as to what the fee's were for. So will you guys be at the Orleans car show next wed. if the weather is nice??

When will you guys be at the Kepmptville or Kanata cruise nights?
I'd also like to come out and meet up.

Your calendars are a little screwy for June and July on the events listings from your web-site...check the dates vs days.

We have been updating our dates and things are not finalized yet. I will certainly let you guys know when we will do the club trip to the Orleans or Kanata show.
