problems with my wipers
Howdy fellas,
I am having a problem with the wipers on my 84 Trans Am...first off the delay on the wipers no longer works. however that is not the main problem. The big problem is that once i turn the wipers on (at either low or high speed, as the delay doesn't work), they wont go off. I turn the switch to the off position and they stay on. The only way to turn them off is to have the wiper switch turned to the off position and then shut the car off and turn the key back to the accessory position...then they will turn off. i was wondering if there was a way to fix this problem or should i just get a used wiiper motor and replace the whole thing. By the way, the wiper motor (the cylinder on the bottom of the wiper motor assembly)has two wires going into it. This is my frist car and i am still learning when it comes to cars, but i am trying to fix as many of the little things as i can now that i have put some good mods on it to give it at least some repectable power. Thanks for all your help guys.
i also posted this on the Tech/General engine board, but i thought i would see my fellow Ontarians had any ideas or suggestions...thanks guys

Please someone correct me if I'm worng here, but unfortunately I think you have to replace the whole thing. If I'm right here, I believe the relay that controls those functions that are failing you is one with the wiper motor.

I think one time my friend fixed it by repairing the ground? Just a shot in the dark. Try to f ind the ground wire for the unit, and check the resistance from the ground wire to the chassis of the car.

My problem is similar to yours except the off setting always works. The problem is with Delay...
If I tap the wiper control box it will work. Tap it again and it won't. I've taken the whole thing apart and cleaned a greased the gears. Same thing... Must be a damaged solder point on the electrical board that is impossible to get to.
Time for a new one I guess.
