intakes/runner opinions

ive searched around a lot and done large amounts of research on the subject but i thought id ask straight forward for peoples experiences/opinions...im gonna ge ta intake baseplate and runners...i was gonna go with edelbrock a while ago but i want the best possible setup i can get and im not sure edelbrock is that...maybe not i dunno...hows the tpis big mouth? thats what im leaning toward now...it seems its the best besides the accel which i cant bring myself to ever pay for ...as far as runners go, what are the best for a 305 ( i want non siamesed)...are the tpis ones worth the $475!?...are the nice cheap edelbrock ones good enough? or AS&M? just gimmee ur input...thanks a lot guys

the Edelbrock High-Flo intake and TPIS big Mouth are the same intake base. There both made by edelbrock. TPIS just port matches it and renames it after they buy it from edelbrock. As for with is best Accel, edelbrock,or TPIS there pretty much the same. Theres a write up on this question in the FAQ section of the home page. AS far as runners go i would stay away from the edelbrocks. my friend had them and we didnt like them to much.the TPIS large tube runners and AS&M runneres are both made by arizona speed and marine(AS&M) but the TPIS ones cost more for the same product. I hope this helps ya out with your questions- Eric

the AS&M runners are the longest runners ive ever heard of although i couldnt tell u how long the edelbrocks are...the general consensus is that the edelbrock ones simply dont flow the best, im sure theyre not bad at all, just not the best...

get the edlebrock ones and port them out. That's what I did (the edlebrock ports were the same size as factory), and when I was done, I took a sand flapper roll to smooth it all out. I got the Accel runners used for cheap, so I used that as my upgrade. I can't compare it with anything, cause I did a head/cam swap at the same time.

Personally, I paln on going with the Edelbrock Base/Runners, Ported Plenum, and Holley 52mm TB. I think I am going to have someone port/port match everything for me. I like to do all my own work, but I am a pu$$y when it comes to cutting or grinding anything I dunno why I just cannot get myself to do it. I guess I will find someone who will do it. Besides I do not really have the time (wife and baby on the way plus Army!) Here are my plans:

I've got the AS&M Siamesed runners, supposed to be 1.75" I think, their siamesed runners are the same diameter as the non-siamesed runners. 1.75"

One thing to note, the First TPI setup will swap in place of an existing TPI, everything but the fuel rails will swap with no problem. Inner diameter on the First TPI setup is supposed to be 1.75" and flow enough to feed a 427.

The First TPI manifold with runners is $940 though. :*(

Well TPIS said they will port my plenum for $100. Doesn't sound bad considering the time it takes.

Its aluminum, doesn't take that long to port. And there isn't as much work to be done with a Plenum.

Well what did you guys use to do the porting? A dremel or something else? I do not have any grinding or cutting tools so I would have to buy them.
