New ECM/Car Won't Start

Hey guys, i've read through the searches pertaining to no start issues, but none of them mentioned changing out the ECM as the last mod.

A couple days ago I took the car out to do some filming and I stopped to take some pictures, when I went to fire it back up, I got a solid check engine, and limp-home mode. So I drove it home and reburned the chip for it, and after sitting a bit, it fired up, then I went back out and turned off the car for a bit, and it wouldnt start again, same problem. So I connected my laptop, saw a ECM and a PROM flag so i decided my ECM was bad. Today I got a new one from autozone and put it in, now the car cranks but doesn't start. I've tried the stock memcal, my moates adapter with custom chip, neither make a difference. I cranked it over for about 10 seconds and then pulled plug 1, and it smelled like gas kinda, so I put the wire back on and laid it on the exhaust manifold and it sparked yellow/orange. So it seems like im getting spark and fuel. I put a paperclip on the ALDL and its just giving code 12, all good. I havnt had a chance to check it witht the laptop, but I figured any codes would flash if it had them. I've checked the fuse under the hood for the ECM, I've checked all the fuses under the dash....i'm at a loss.

I was thinking maybe its the coil, but I dont know. What should I do next?

Don't bother with rebuilt ECMs, which is what you'll find at Autozone. You will probably be throwing your money away. I went through two rebuilt ECMs before I finally got one that worked.

You have to pay good money for a new ECM, but it's worth it.

And by the way, have you checked your system voltages with a multimeter? If the alternator regulator is dying, it can fry your whole engine electrical system in short order.

well it ended up being a bad ECU....I went to the 24 hour autozone and switched em out, and the car fired right up!
