Cam swap began !!
Well I started the cam swap in my '86 Iroc. Just couldnt live with 141hp/228tq and only 148hp/231tq after full exhaust swap. Pulled the intake, after prying the dizzy out. Expecting the worse like crud and build up under the intake was good. No sludge or build up. Then off came the timing chain. HOLY CRAP. This thing has the factory timing gears and chain. Half the cam teeth were wornoff or almost worn out. The chain had alot of slack in it. Thinking this may have retarded the timing a bit and killed the power. Got the intake all cleaned up and found a TPI nitrous plate from a member on here. I know the heads needed valve seals atleast and the Summit TPI cam has new springs and retainers. Hummm do i really want to spray 100-150 shot on possible factory head gaskets???? Well then the heads got yanked this morning and dropped off at the machine shop for a valve job, new seals springs retainers, keepers, guides, and just ge them trued up. I told the guy that when I did a compression test cold all cylinders had over 200 psi of compression so he isnt going to cut alot. Also gettin the studs pinned for good measure. Guess it was good that I pulled the heads cause the head gaskets were metal, guessing that was factory. They didnt look bad for being 20 years old. Nothing can ever be cheap for what I got. This car was going to be a low budget build but I got bit by the HP bug.
