Removing Emissions

Ok so Im rebuilding my motor, and In the process of taking the engine out I took off the AIR tubes, the rubber hose runs to some sort of black box that when I took apart had two servo looking ("THINGS") and the hose ran to the smog pump. So my first question is what is that BLACK box that connects to smog pump and AIR tubes. Second question what happens if I just re-assemble the engine without AIR tubes, smog pump, and the BLACK BOX ?
Will it throw codes ??

i yanked my smog pump, and all the tubes for my headers with no ill effects. I haven't had any trouble codes either. You will need to get a 2" shorter belt if you are running a serpentine, and you'll need route the belt a bit different. There is an article in the Tech section of this site where i learned it. Its under "smog pump delete" i think.
I also have it on my webpage on my link....

Yea I've checked out the article on how to re-route the belt. But Im concerned about that black box that has some wiring going to it thats connected to the smog pump.

isnt that box the thing that supplies air into the AIR tubes?

Well it appears that the box has a solenoid controlled valve, but Im not sure. The only reason I think it might have a solenoid is it might only operate during "closed loop". But regardless I want it out for good. Its annoying and it clutters my engine and makes it hard to access vavle covers. I just wanna know if I leave out ; smog pump , AIR tubes, and "black box" will I have a strange running motor or any unfavorable effects ?

Be sure to yank out that nasty catalytic converter or it'll cause problems down the road. Get a test pipe to replace it or have one welded in its place, or if your cheap like me hollow it out. A clogged converter will do a lot of damage.
