Do I NEED DIY Prom
OK I have done so much reading on this subject my head is spinning and my eyes hurt.
Let me start by saying I know a new PROM is needed to get the best out of my car, and yes I want to do it. BUT do I need it to stop codes coming up.
I touched on this in another thread, but not wanting to thread jack I thought I would start a new one.
The engine set up when I get back to Australia will be.
350TPI, RHS 180cc, 64cc Heads, 1.6 Rockers, AFPR @ 48psi, ported plenium and Crane 104224 (Powermax 2032) cam producing around 480 lift.
With the flow of air, and WITHOUT adjusting the factory standard chip fitted to the car, am I going to set any codes with this set up.
I have full intentions of DIY PROMS but it will come down to a money availability factor in the time I have left over this side of the world.

What codes? If you disabled the EGR, then yes. I can relate to that, as I always had that problem until I disabled it in the eprom.
If you are willing to learn, which, by your post, seems that you are, then do it. Dont get discouraged, as its not that hard to learn how to burn eproms. Its alot more involved, in WHAT to change in the tables, before your program them.

Ask a yes/no question get a yes/no answer. That would be my fault.
OK I can except that this set up will cause codes to be set, my next question is why, and which ones are likely?

Well, as an example, if you use a cylinder head, or intake manifold that has no EGR provisions, you will set a code 32. You can even have the egr blocked off, but, if the ECM is still "looking for it". it will trouble code. That was one of the problems I had encountered.
Are you setting any codes? Other than that, you probably will not set a code, due to your set up. The setup has nothing to do with it.
I would try it out first, before diving into the eprom. MAF is more forgiving, and it probably will run rather well. Got to try it first.

How big a cam can you go before you need to get a new eprom. Im thinking about going with a Comp Cam XE256H 212 int / 218 exh @ .050" and .449 intake and .456 exhaust lift.

what are the .050" duration numbers , also the LSA ? I ran the ZZ4 in my car . But because it is a MAF setup , it ran really good . Not optimal but prett darn good

If you are considering eprom tuning, my advice is to get into it, and work with a stock engine, before getting into a heavily modified engine. Sort of like getting practice, before diving in over your head.
Cheesecake, that cam looks like it would be computer friendly.

Yea COMP CAMS said that I shouldnt need any modifications, and its got a 112 LSA. So I think it should be ok until I do some heads. But I wanna get into burning my own chips.

As was stated above many people have highly modified engines with stock programming and a MAF setup. I consider myself somewhat in the group. I have done heads, cam, ported intake......well you can see the mods in my sig. I have the stock chip and my car runs great. Heck I can knock down 25mpg on the highway and I just got 21.5mpg back and fourth to work.
