Will TPI Work with a 383?

Hello. I am in the process of building a budget 383 to replace the tired L98 in my 1990 Corvette. I have all the hardware and am getting the block dipped/bored/honed/lined for under $1000. This will be a mild engine with hyperutectic pistons, so I was going to reinstall the TPI for now and maybe get a Miniram or something later. Will I hurt anything like this? Will tuning be worse with the intake restriction? Will a ported plenum, or aftermarket runners help? Thanks! Ben

It will work just fine. It may not be enough to feed a 383 so you may need new injectors or something. And you'll definitely need to get the computer reprogrammed. It should do just fine until you get that mini ram. Won't hurt anything.

I'm going to hate to have to tune it twice, but oh well... Would 26.8lbers off my LS1 be OK? I guess I should ask that in the other forum...

It won't hurt anything. The stock tune can be forgiving, depending on the cam that you're going with's specs (what are the specs, by the way). You're stock injectors will be fine, initially. Porting the plenum always helps.

Tpi can work on your 383. It may not make optimum horsepower, but with a good tune, it would make a hell of a daily driver. Depending on the cam, Im sure it would make around 500 lb ft tq

Well, I haven't finalized the cam yet, but the engine will be heading to the machine shop on Monday for bore/hone/line etc. I don't want a big cam and using a tune as close to stock as possible would be great. The car will be a driver (I have a 576rwhp Z28 for going fast), so I don't need anything radical. Are ported runners a worthwhile investment? How about underdrive pullies? Sorry that I'm getting off topic, but I'm stoked and agree with 350KID that it should make a fun driver..

That's a sticky here and it's my bible for tpi 383 info. If you skim throw all the BS in the thread, there is some good info there.

stock cam should make even more torque, at lower rpms, just not as much midrange. Porter runners are cool

IROC315-Thanks for the thread link. A lot of info there!
I will probably go with a slightly larger cam than stock, but not too much. The car is a A4 and probably won't see the high side of 5500rpm. Thanks for everybody's input and any more tips/advice is always welcome! Ben
