car runs/sound better in open loop?
305TPI, ton of miles, around 200,000
still runs pretty decent
my question is when i first start her up for the day she's got this nice deep sound and she feels like she's got abit more power than after she's been running for about two minutes. the idle seems to be about the same in both modes, atleast i don't get an extra notch on my digital dash RPM meter, so about 500-600 rpm. when shes in closed loop, shes not as loud and doesnt have as much pick-up then in open loop. all i've picked up from reading threads is that the engine ignores some sensors during open loop? she has a new bosch o2 sensor ( i know you guys dont like those ) and a new CTS (the one by the throttle body)
is there any way to make her run and sound like that normally?

My exhaust is also louder at idle in open loop than closed loop. I am pretty sure this is do to a higher idle, and in open loop, it is getting more gas at idle.

yeah, it sounds like a higher idle but my dash isn't showing anything extra. could putting a better o2 sensor than the bosch one help at all?

well, would disconnecting the oxygen sensor in theory make the car run in open loop again? i tried that and she ran and sounded the same, atleast sittin there idling, and the odd thing is that it didn't throw a SES light.
anyhow, it's definetly a different exhaust tone altogether for the first 2 minutes, not just a little bit higher RPM. it definetly could sound like two different cars. or is that all because it's running rich? how can i achieve that all the time?
would some audio help?

its really hard to say. in all 3 of my cars they felt "faster" when driven right after cold startup. i havent really tried to drive with the 02 disconnected. but i think its safe to say that your gas milege will suffer driving like that because your running off a preset air/fuel mixture. but i will include a clip to this articvle i found (i think i found it here)

do not just go driving around in open loop your car cannot make adjustments to your air/fuel its running off a preset list of tables which are not very accourate and your gas mileage will suffer as well.
it feels faster because you're running rich and the motor is acting like its in PE all the time and its designed to work this way for idiots who just jump in their car while its cold and start romping on it.

warm it up first or at least let the idle come down before driving.

does it seem a little odd that i disconnected the oxygen sensor and the car didnt (atleast sound wise) go back in open loop? and no service engine soon light was thrown? I did wait for the car to hit closed loop, then i turned it off and disconnected o2
edit: unplugged o2 this morning before i started the car, still went into what im assuming is closed loop, still threw no codes.
i already have a ALDL cable in the mail to me, i havent looked for software yet, but could there be possible something to log whats going on so you guys could see?
