Eldelbrock High-Flo standard base with Vortecs?
Hi, I tried doing a search but didnt find what I was looking for. Im sure this has been asked, but I was wondering if I could take the Edelbrock High-flo base for stock heads and use vortec heads with it? Will I have to re-drill some holes? If so which ones? I hate to buy a new base just for these heads. Are these heads worth the money over my L98 heads I have now?

one of advantage to vortec heads are the combustion chamber. the combustion chamber on the AFRs would be the same for both. the only other is the bolt location and the vortec's have a taller/narrower runners.
a stock vortec head is much better than the L98, but to answer your question no, you can't do that.

Yeah I was thinking about AFRs but 1500 is alot to dish out. I work at a dealership and can get a set of vortecs cheap. Thats why I was thinking about going that route. If I have to buy a new base then it isnt worth the money then.

Well, I run Vortec's and I love them. But you do have to buy a new base to run them. Personally I'm looking very hard at the new ARF Eliminator heads.

Yeah thats what I was looking at was the new Eliminators. They make them sound really good. Of course the old AFRs were good anyways. I was thinking somewhere on here I read that you could drill out the base but I guess I am thinking of something else or read it wrong.

You can modify a stock base to work on vortec heads but its not the best idea. Ive heard of people doing it but they have battled vacuum leak since you have to use 2 intake gaskets to get it to seal.
