Re: who has the fastest TPI car here?
its Preston Smith's car. It is a de-stroked engine with a 4" bore that just happens to equal 305.
for fastest TPI cars, its not me but I went 12.48@113.67 with a 2.0 60ft and my old lean tune. It might go low 12s now that it is tuned. I think the fastest NA "tpi" cars are in the mid high 11s.

Re: who has the fastest TPI car here?
Mini ram is not TPI. Try buying parts for a mini ram and calling them TPI parts. You'll get the wrong crap.
TPI should be specified more clearly. Stock TPI? Aftermarket TPI replacement parts that are still LTR?

Well the person who started the thread did not specify wheather it had to be stock style tpi intake or aftermarket. And he did not specify quickest car such as in the quarter mile or fastest car like top speed.

Re: who has the fastest TPI car here?
For sake of thirdgen.org then, limit it to a LTR style setup that uses factory replacement parts, base/runner/plenum and you'll have your "fastest TPI." Even magazines are referring to the L98, and LB9 when they write TPI.
I suppose you can include a First Injection setup, but I haven't seen any times with one on a car, there is an article floating around here on the forums though.
Say TPI in an car discussion and EVERYONE is going to think of GM's system. Not the concept of Tuned Port Injection.

Here we are debating what the def of a TPI is when no one has even answered the question.
I know my time isn't the fastest but before my build, my best time, bone stock was 14.3 @ 96. I have no new numbers as of yet.

Re: who has the fastest TPI car here?
Well not here to argue and i understand your point. Usually the guys who havedecided to stick with the inferior stock style design consider it the only tur tpi design even though all electronically controlled engines have tuned runners. Gm just used the name and it was associated with the motor from that point on.
The best I did with the stock TPI intake and just a small cam and exhaust in the qurter mile was a 14.2 at 103.9. The fastest top speed was over 155(uncertain my freinds speedo was past 150 and I was pulling slowly from him). Also calculated through rpm and gear ratio. Worked out to abotu there. Good ole open flat areas of Texas.

well the fastest stock ecm "TPI" motor i know of was 87 TA's 406 miniram that ran off the 730 ecm i believe. ran 10.8's at 126 N/A and 10.07 i believe at 133 with a 150 shot.

ive ran an 11.7 @ 118 mph, its a 87 T/A with a 350 tpi, slp runners, and loads of other stuff including 150 shot. that was with the stock fuel pump, it has a welbro now, pulls MUCH hader, havent tried it with gas yet and havent run it at the track. i have NEVER seen a tpi yet thats as quick here in the uk, so i may be the quickest? id love to hear from anyone else in england if they are quicker.

Re: who has the fastest TPI car here?
13.522 at 97.57mph This is on all stock long block parts aside from LS1 injectors. All I did was porting to the stock base and plenum (along with hammering out the mandatory dents in the runners), Hedman long tubes and duals, ported air box and de screened maf. It's backed by a TH350 with a 3000rpm stall, and 3.27 gears. I'm pretty sure someone has beat me NA on stock long block TPI with a fully stock TPI setup on top but I'm not 100% sure. Unfortunatly this may be the best ever this engine gets to run, I lightened up the car pretty well but I have a Stealth Ram now and I'm not so sure I'm willing to keep the TPI on to see if I can outdo the old time.

Re: who has the fastest TPI car here?
13.52 at 97 is one of the best times for the power/mph that i've ever seen. very good running car there.
but nah dont keep the TPI. i was the same way as you at one time.. i wanted to see how far i could take the stock L98 with just exhaust. i figured i could get 13.4's if i did some more mods to suspension, did some drag wheels, better gears, and maybe some weight reduction but nothing major. then some tuning. I'd need cold weather, and great track prep but i think it could be done. Just thought it was a waste of time and bought a stealth ram.... i am so happy i did. really made a difference. the top end is soo nice now. definately swap on the stealth ram.

Re: who has the fastest TPI car here?
Well orr one of the reasons 1991camaro's car ran so well is because of the th350 in the car they have a much better split bewteen the gears if you were to put one in your car it would pick up almost half a second in the 1/4. Seriously we did it to a buddy's car it went 13.5 with a 700r4 with a 2800 stall then we put in a th350 with the same size stall 2800 different converter cause they don't bolt up and with no other changes it went 13.0.The only problem with that swap is you lose od but for a more dedicated strip car it was perfect.

Re: who has the fastest TPI car here?
i figured the gear spread was a big factor. the 1-2 shift drops but the 2-3 really drops too and kills top end. but i need overdrive, my car is a daily driver in the summer, untill i get my own beater car, hopefully a civic 5 speed with some nitrous lol
never been there, but you know what, i may actually take a trip sometime. i'm up for it for sure! we'll see how it goes. i got a buddy that wants to go racing at other tracks since we dont like ours too much. He's got a bolt on 95 Z28, runs as fast as my car does but he's on street tires haha. those LT1's are strong but i'll talk to him to see if he's down for a run sometime out there. my car aint anything special, i just have fun with it
Orr89RocZ, do you ever come over to Englishtown, New Jersey to run? I'd like to see that thing hustle down the track one day....

Re: who has the fastest TPI car here?
^ You'll love it over here. I've been saying this for the longest time, a lot of us need to meet up at the track. Was trying to get Dimented, TomP and a few others to come down awhile back. Think it would be awesome to finally start putting some faces to those UserID's. It would be very healthy for this forum if we started posting TPI member results, collectively, on video. Although the crate recently got here, my Formula is still sporting it's original LB9. I'd honestly love to take it down the track w/some of you guys running your L98's. Just make DAMN sure you beat me by at least a full second though..... :P

Re: who has the fastest TPI car here?
lol i hear englishtown is a fast track. just maybe this fall or so i can come down. I'll try to bring down my buddies with their LS1 cars and maybe a few LT1's. they'll whoop up on me and probly alot of us but no worries, its all good fun lol. Maybe 87 TA will come down with his miniram 406 motor in his new car, the 94 formula

Re: who has the fastest TPI car here?
I started a thread on here a long while back about what I would gain from doing a TH350 swap and Pro Built said "not much". I went through with the swap anyways, better stall and better tires and my track times went down by 1 tenth. I went from a 14.0 to a 13.9 going to a 3000rpm stall and a stickier set of tires; I also lost a bit of trap speed but that's to be expected with a looser stall and softer sidewall tires. The very night I ran the 13.9 I pulled the screens out of the MAF just to see if it would help and the car went a 13.8. My biggest gain came from massaging the air box with a heat gun and porting the base. This is what put me at 13.5. I have alot of this documented in my threads if you do a search. I'de be interested to see someone else do a comparison of just doing what I did with the base, air box, and exhaust. I feel that's where the biggest gains are to be had with these cars.

thats one of the faster mild bolt on cars i've seen with stock TPI!! just abit quicker than my record of 13.63 at 97mph.

I take it my 13.5 at 97 mph, with long tubes and a converter is not to shabby then.

Yes this threads old, dead, buried, rotted and reincarnated. Lol
I ran a 12.99 a long *** time ago in a full weight 87 GTA. TFS heads, SCT chip, Accel lower intake and a K&N filter. Everything else was stock.Sorry for the revival. It was my first (and last)12 second pass. Lol That was quick in the early/mid 90s.
