Question about Worlds Product Sportsman Heads
Has anyone ever used the Worlds Product Sportsman-II Heads with a TPI setup!?? They have a 200cc runner and I'm wondering if there is any match-up problem with the heads and a stock TPI intake like there is with the AFR heads and the edlebrock intake!!?? I'd really like to buy these heads but I don't want to spend nearly $800 on the heads and then find out they won't match up to the intake!!

1986 Trans AM
305 TPI
4 Wheel Discs
9 bolt Borg Warner Rear
Completely Stock
Soon to upgrade to a 383 stroker w/TPI, Hedman Shorty Headers, 64cc Pocket Ported Worlds Product Sportsman-II heads, ported intake, comp cam, TPI air foil, Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, possibly bigger injectors!
Current project: Keeping my car running until I get the money for the above mentioned project! :-)

I'm running a set on my 355 with stock TPI setup. They seem to flow pretty well, however they needed to be resurfaced, and they didn't drill the valve cover bolt holes deep enough.
I'm not sure if anyone else has had problems with them.

World heads
I use a pair on my monza with a 406, although I have a carb setup on that. Can't say for sure there would be any TPI related problems, but I can tell you I have had no problems with them otherwise, decent head for the money. Larry.

I'm using them on a 383 in my 91 Firebird with a SuperRam intake. No problems at all. Mine are ported a bit to improve the flow, but that shouldn't matter in relation to your question.
Be advised that the EGR provision is not "automatic" on these heads. It needs to be drilled it you want to use EGR.
I didn't have any problem with the valve cover bolts either. I'm using perimeter valve covers and put threaded studs into the heads and use the long T type hold downs on mine. Here'a a pic that probably explains it better:

No mounting problems on mine. I drilled the egr (just need a 1/4" drill longer than 6" to get in there but it was easy)
If you plan to use centerbolt valve covers, you'll need to cut down the bosses a little bit that are there for the perimiter style covers.
I'm using perimiters because I forgot to do it until I already had them bolted in (was just too anxious!)
You'll need to re-angle the center 4 bolt holes if using a "newer" base manifold but that is quick to do.
Had it running in the garage for hours with no leaks and everything went to gether nice.
Haven't gotten out on the road with it yet, but it sounds promising.
Edit: mine was a stock 87' setup

Say JP86SS - what is the procedure for drilling these for EGR? My engine builder didn't drill mine, and I'm considering doing it. Is it possible to do with the heads still installed, or do they have to be pulled? I'm wondering if it's something I can do with them still on the motor....

I wouldn't really suggest doing it on the motor although by pulling the intake to gain acces to the ports, you just drill at an angle though bout 1/8" wall into the exhaust port behing the valve.
Not hard, just need to get one of those long 10" drill bits 1/4" diameter.
The chips will "most likely" get blown out but I cringe to think what would happen to that pretty motor if the EGR popped open before it was all cleaned out.

I'm still not quite sure where to drill the holes, sorry for being so dense. I've got an EGR valve on my LPE intake, it's just not doing anything. May have to talk to WP to get more details....
So you don't think a shop vac would pull the chips out, huh? You're probably right. I'll probably just leave it EGR-less for now.....

The chips would mostly stay in the top on the intake side until you break through.
But when breaking through they would land on the back side of the exhaust valve.
I'd be afraid of first cranking when the valve opens and drops in a small piece
Maybe next winter (after some summer fun) project.
Nitrovette, I still love those blue runners!
I broke down and polished mine although I don't think I'll keep them looking nice and will probably do the transparent red over them eventually.
